Just curious.

12. I think I voted for a former Republican. John Anderson 1980 (who was an independent at the time)
I saw him speak, and somehow believed he was gonna unite the country, unite the R's and D's in Congress to get stuff done, and drastically cut the defense budget, and I was temporarily mad at Carter about some stuff, so I wandered off the reservation a little. I think I did, anyway ... I walked into the voting booth still undecided, and my memory tells me I probably voted for Anderson, but, to this day, I'm not sure. Weird. I can tell you everyone I voted for in primaries and generals before and after that.

Perhaps I was just so traumatized by Reagan winning (yeah, I know. WTF did I have to bitch about if I DID vote for Anderson?) and my mind played tricks on me???

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 09:30 PM by nuncvendetta
Although my parents are Democrats:

In 1988, I would've voted for Bush I
In 1992, I would've voted for Bush I
In 1996, I would've voted for Dole
In 2000, I would've voted for Bush II

then I turned 18.

In 2004, I voted for Kerry.
In 2008, I voted for Obama.

:)

45. It's interesting that you knew...
who you would vote for as far back as 1988. I don't remember being aware of politics until 1996. Even then, I didn't really know much about what was going on. I couldn't vote in 2000 but I knew enough to realize Bush was an idiot and only there because his dad was a former president.

In senate races etc, I've always taken a look at all the candidates and always come away convinced the the Dem is the better choice. In presidential politics (since I could vote in 1980) I've never even seen the rethugs run a candidate I'd piss on if he was on fire - much less vote for.

24. Funny thing. When I was alot younger, there was a time when I
always said, and did, vote for the candidate I liked, whatever the party. In other words, voted for the man, not the party. And I always informed myself and picked my candidate. Turns out - it was always the Democrat. Never voted Republican. So that told me something about myself, and as I grew older, I realized - I am a Democrat for sure. And as I think back as far as school, I realize I have always been one. The Democratic party shares my values.

I voted for Ray-gun when I was 18. At least I voted as soon as I could - if the young people today come out for Obama, he will win easily.

Edit, oh, I haven't voted for a Republican since. The day Reagan fired the air-traffic controllers was the day I knew I could never make such a horrible mistake again.

Only once though, after how he handled the AIDS epidemic, I never forgave him or voted for him, or any other republican president again. However, I'm pretty sure he would not like the republican party as it stands today. :hide:

Voted for Alan Simpson in WY (more than once), because he was a pro-choice republican, and once in a while he was okay...plus, he WAS entrenched here, as most WY republicans are. However, we may get democrat Gary Trauner in here, I hope so because Lumis is a Cubin clone and I despise her.

BTW, just finished filling out and sealing my absentee ballot in WY, straight DEM ticket all the way. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I was still only 17 in 2004 so this is my first presidential election, I did vote straight DEM in the 2006 mid term elections. I've always liked the Democrats. There is no way looking at the current platform of the republican party that I could vote for any republican. I will place my vote proudly for Obama this year and hopefully Ohio will deliver it's electoral votes to him.

57. Hell no and thought has never crossed my mind as an adult
though I loved Ford as a little kid and if four year olds were permitted the vote I probably would have went against Carter because I recall crying when Gerald was sent packing. After that though it was all over by the time I was eight I was pretty much a JFK Democrat and despised Reagan with the fiery heat of a thousand suns and even yelled at my conservative Grandparents about what they had done to our country.

I have sinned though, I've voted for a Republiscum state Senator and I think I voted for Richie Farmer for Ag Secretary. I learned a painful lesson about that state senator situation, which is even though he actually was the better candidate he caucused with the Republiscum which means he as an individual was meaningless. Screw Ritchie too, not that he did anything that I noticed but I'm done with them on GP.

Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry. I have voted for a republican congress critter, until she was the deciding vote to impeach Clinton. 69. I voted republican for president probably until Clinton.
Why? Because I was raised republican. My mother died when I was young and my father married (within 9 months) a woman that held a position in the area Democratic party. My whole family went Democratic but I did not because I hated that woman so much and what my father was like when married to her. She was not a nice person!! Would it help you understand if you knew she had been my father's boss and he had been cheating with her before my mother died. Well anyway, between her and Lyndon Johnson (blamed him for Vietnam) I hated the Democrats for a while. I really was not political enough to know that the republicans of my childhood were not the ones of my adulthood.

My father and his wife both died in 1986, and I soon became a Democrat and never looked back. My sister laughs at me now because of how I feel about the republicans when I remained one longer than any of the family. But that is the Rebel in me, would not become one just because everyone else was following my father and his wife.

As far as me hating the republicans. When I went to college was when I learned what had went on in the country under the republicans and that is when I began to hate them and their policies. That was when I learned the difference between 'pro-choice' and pro-abortion. And found the irony of people calling them selves 'pro-life' who supported war and the death penalty and was against social programs that benefit children caught in poverty.
