Palin Wears Her Fiesty Attitude on Her Tee
Elizabeth Holmes reports from Shippensburg, Penn., on the presidential race.
Given the growing attention to her wardrobe and reports about tension between her and the John McCain’s campaign staff, Sarah Palin’s T-shirt Tuesday wasn’t all that surprising.
After a rally here at Shippensburg University, the GOP vice presidential candidate appeared before an overflow crowd wearing a Navy-blue T-shirt that said “SHIP” in big white letters and then; underneath, in smaller letters, it read “HAPPENS.”
Palin said she traded her burgundy jacket for the oversized tee after the rally without realizing she had more hands to shake. “They hadn’t told me that there was overflow crowd,” she said. “So I got on the bus and changed my clothes and then realized that I get to meet some more of you.”
None of the attitude projected from the T-shirt made it into her brief speech to the overflow crowd of a few hundred gathered in the auditorium. But the feistiness was there just a little while earlier when Palin spoke to a couple thousand people in a gymnasium on campus.
The Alaska governor hit the Democratic ticket hard, with a special focus on Barack Obama’s comments on the redistribution of wealth during a 2001 interview. Palin said Obama regretted that the Supreme Court during the civil rights area “hadn’t been more radical” and attempted, in some way, to encourage “redistributive change.”
Palin suggested that meant Obama could want to “rewrite the founding document of our great nation” and questioned what sorts of judges he would nominate to the high court.
“Let me remind Barack Obama of something else when judges don’t confiscate your property and…all of your hard earned money and then re-distribute that, he may call that a tragedy, but I call it fairness and adherence to our U.S. Constitution,” Palin said.
