Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Balks at Extending Voting Hours. Seeks injunction to stop it!
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 04:37 PM by flpoljunkie
In Volusia County, elections supervisor Ann McFall said she would keep her headquarters open till 7 p.m. today but polling places at Volusia's libraries would not see hours extended for now. Elections supervisors from around the state are now talking about filing an injunction against Crist's order, McFall said. Elections-office attorneys are questioning the governor's authority to change the hours, she added.

"I've hired 80 people," said McFall, who supports in injunction. "My full-time people are working 70 hours a week. For them to tell me to stay open today till 7 p.m. is irresponsible."

(Perhaps not a good idea for Republican Elections Supervisor Ann McFall who has opposition, Susan Pynchon of DeLeon Springs, former Democrat, now registered NPA (No Party Affiliation) She is the executive director of the Florida Fair Elections Coalition.)

Christ is a republican, and in this case, he made the right call.

11.  Crist is the self-described 'peoples' governor' and he is also looking out for #1 here.
He is rather a maverick himself, and in this case, is doing the right thing.

had that crazy sheriff that put up the "drug check point ahead" signs on I95.

7. Bring in some volunteers
There are trainable people that will volunteer to help ensure or democracy. Everything doesn't require money every time and all of us aren't greedy Republiscum that won't do community service without a payoff or a court order.

I guess Republiscum cannot even conceive of people wanting to help and just are awaiting a call to action.

9. The Flagler County Supervisor is extending early voting to 7PM for all 3 of her locations
http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/breakingnews/polls102808.htm

Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall said hours would be extended until 7 p.m. today at the early voting site at the Department of Elections in DeLand but not at the other four sites, which were to close as scheduled at 4 p.m.

McFall said she plans to open all sites at 7 a.m. Wednesday in keeping with Crist's order, which she said poses significant administrative challenges, not the least of which is rescheduling the roughly 80 people staffing the county's five early voting sites.

"If he had done this the day before early voting started it would be one thing," McFall said. "I will tell you I think it was irresponsible of the governor to do this."

Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Peggy Rae Border said hours at Flagler County's three sites would be extended until 7 p.m. effective today.

"I've talked to my people and they're pitching in and doing it," Border said.

14. Volusia is a major swing county in Florida.
McFall needs to abide by Crist's order.

Kerry won the state by 2%. Obama needs to increase those margins, and he can do it through early voting.
