It seems that after weeks of conservatives begging the McCain camp and the media to let "Palin be Palin," the McCain campaign is working harder than ever to make sure that doesn't happen. John McCain and Sarah Palin managed to come together today for their first joint "live" interview as reports swirled that Palin is going "rogue."

Between McCain's points and questions from CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, Palin only got a couple lines in -- easy answers on nuclear energy and oil prices. Bartiromo cut off the interview at the one question that could actually create some of those "rogue" answers: "I'd like to ask you how your partnership is going, and how unified you are, actually!" After that line, Bartiromo tossed to anchors, Mark Haines and Erin Burnett, who were forced to explain that the awkward cut-off was because the McCain camp would only allow five live minutes. Despite the negatives for the campaign, Palin's recalcitrance has helped her shred the Caribou Barbie stigma for a more independent aura. Pundits are even starting to wonder whether she's gettng ready for a 2012 presidential bid.

Maybe that's why the McCain campaign allowed so little of today's interview to be live. The rest will air at 4pm and 7pm EST. The network will also be airing excerpts throughout the day.

1. Finally, Palin and I have something in common.
We both had to look up 'recalcitrance'.
