depressing. I keep telling myself this is red state and gwinnett is a pretty red area, but the people all around me (about 10 in each direction of the line) were all Sarah Palin ga-ga fans. It was nauseating. Also my feet hurt from standing so long.
Sorry to be a downer, but then I came home and saw the gallup poll. Is there good news out there today?

31. That's the spirit!!!
Also, look at the state polls. He just needs Kerry states and just one or two from a slew of states where he is polling ahead. mclame has only 1 path to victory. Sen Obama has several.

I'm not one of those who gets angry at those who are nervous or freaking out. Probably because I have to talk my dad and sister off a ledge almost daily. I'm going to give you the same advice I give them. Take a day off from the internet and the TV. Sit outside if you're in that kind of climate. Read a good book. Take a bath. Play with your kids/pets/friends.

7. Oh bummer!
That sucks. Man, I can't believe people have to wait for 3.5 hours to EARLY vote. That's absurd. I thought the whole point of early voting was to make things easier.

Bummer about the 20:1 Palin loving crowd too. Bah! I had hoped that early voting turnout would be great for us.

On the good news. Insider Advantage/Poll Position has McSame with only a 1 point lead in Georgia today! Something to be happy about!!

23. At least you can early vote...
Here in SC you have to "give a reason" just to get an absentee ballot. It's like it's a special deal...along the lines of getting out of jury duty. Not a very progressive area, obviously. (To me, not wanting to stand in the line all day with a bunch of narrow-minded ditto-heads on election day is a perfectly valid reason.) I may have to complain about that. My wife told them that she's disabled (which she is) and got her absentee ballot, but I just refused to lie, so I'll be making some new "friends" on election day.

Madison County will make things competitive this year too. I spoke to the poll workers when I voted at 2:30 today, and they said they had already recorded over 400 votes since this morning alone. (which for rural Madison County, is pretty impressive)

11. Thank you for voting for Barack...
It's difficult to live in our red states (I'm in FL) but the only way we can help make a difference is to GOTV so we don't look quite as red as in previous elections. Georgia is probably still a little bit racist so what can you expect. Keep a stiff upper lip...no, on second thought, that would make you look too much like McCain. Stay strong, instead.

I'm one of those "Appalachian Rednecks" I keep reading about. There is NO WAY my county is going to go for Obama, but I vote anyway. It makes me feel good to win the nation, if not my home county.

People are actually scared to say they are Democrats here, or even that they voted for a Democrat, let alone Barack Obama. There are very few black people here, but I haven't heard much about the election this time. Trust me, that's a good sign here. I've actually seen Obama signs, and I don't think I ever saw a Kerry sign. Abortion, guns, gays and God and the issues people react to here, and it's always been this way. The South is changing slowly; Bush/Cheney let us backslide, but I'm counting on the big cities to bail us out nationally.

By the way, there ARE Democrats, or at least truly independent thinking people down here. Please don't forget us when raging against the rednecks. Trust me, the rednecks are MUCH harder on us than they are on those of you who only have to listen to them every four years.

Along with Clarke and a few other counties; parts of Gwinnett are likely to go for Obama too, on the basis of demographics (think the Buford Highway area, fairly high black/Hispanic/Asian population compared to the rest of the county). I still don't expect Georgia to go for Obama, but we just may get a surprise on election day.

http://elections.gmu.edu/early_vote_2008.html

Race
White 61.0%
Black 35.1%
Other/Unk 2.6%

Sex
Men 41.2%
Women 55.9%
Unk 1.6%

Ballot
Absentee 14.8%
In-person 85.2%

Also, early voting is 31.8% of the 2004 total vote. These stats are looking very good for Obama, so we thank you for your part! :patriot:

52. Romney can't win the South. Period.
I am a southerner, and I am by no means biased against race or religion usually, but in the south, Mormons are dirty, filthy cultists. Period. That's what every southern church preacher will tell you.

I disregard most of what southern church preachers say, but I agree with them on this. I was recruited, heavily, by mormons when I was a teenager. They harassed me, having someone invite me to her home under the pretense of "friendship" only to be ambushed by a bunch of Mormons trying to get me to convert. They came to my house repeatedly for about a year.

I am an open minded individual. I will abide all religions, and I adhere to no religion. I am actually pretty much an atheist, but am willing to let other religions be. 7th day Adventists, you name it. That said? Mormons are dirty, filthy cultists who can't be trusted. If I believe that, based on my personal experience with those jerks, you can bet the rest of the south believes that because their church told them so.

I was abused and harassed and stalked by Mormons. Fundamentalists frequently are too. Romney will lose if he's on the ticket, ever.

53. chatham is looking alright for Obama
and remember, we registered 400,000 new voters in GA this year:-)

I know is SUCKS living around all of this red and it can be really demoralizing. It happened to me today -- the Jesus talk, the dead baby talk, the Muslim talk, and the rest which is too ugly to repeat. It can suck -- but, there are more of us here than anyone would have guessed (and I'm still pissed that someone stole my Obama sign last weekend).

Yes, we can;-) turn GA light blue.

Don't forget to vote your whole ballot and not just president!!! GOTV, phone back, give rides, and video the vote.

Yes, we will!!! (even is GA stays light pink, we've made a huge accomplishment here!)

YOU ROCK!! hang in there!
