Pittsburgh City Councilman wants McCain to apologize re: Ashley Todd hoax

-- specifically, the way his campaign pushed the story to the media.

Pittsburgh City Councilman Ricky Burgess on Monday asked Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin to apologize for the way he said the campaign handled the false allegations of one of its volunteers.

Ashley Todd, 20, told police last week she had been mugged and beaten by a black man who carved a "B" into her cheek. She later admitted she must have done it herself though she didn't remember doing so. Todd, who was taken to an undisclosed hospital for a psychological evaluation, is charged with filing a false police report and is scheduled to make a first appearance in court Thursday.

The liberal-leaning Web site TalkingPointsMemo quoted KDKA News Director John Verrilli saying a McCain spokesman pushed the story to news outlets. McCain campaign spokesman Jeff Sadosky said yesterday that "has no basis in fact."

Burgess, in a letter with City Council letterhead and the city's seal at the top, said McCain owes Pittsburgh an apology. Sadosky said the campaign "had no role in this incident."

2. I suspect that it will be a cold day in hell before that happens
More likely than not he'll demand an apology from the city.

Regards

8. If they don't apologize, they should be forced to make an "I am Ashley Todd!" TV ad.
They can't be allowed to run away from this silently.

9. McCain volunteer? I don't think so . . .
Ashley Todd was a paid campaign operative for the College Republican National Committee. She was terminated by the CRNC on October 24th, after her admission that the assault story was a hoax.

10. Is Ashley Judd indicative of the..
kind of people Johnny pals around with? Johnny is too busy dividing the country to comment on the actions of one of his disciples.

12. I totally support local Democrats in PA doing this. IMO, McCain bears the weight of responsibility
along with the heads of the college Republicans who used this young woman who seemed desperate to fit in and be someone.
