The mistake the GOP made in nominating Sarah "I don't have a clue" Palin, was the result of the Republicans believing their own lies and propaganda. The GOP thought that Hillary was a bad candidate, that women were just voting for her because she was a woman (and later when it was between her and Obama because she was white). Well guess what? People supported Hillary because she was a very good and qualified candidate, showing just how wrong their sexist lies were.
Then they felt that Obama was an empty suit. That his popularity was based strictly on his pleasant looks, his youth and his charisma. So they figured if they got themselves the same kind of candidate they would be on equal footing (how often did you hear right wingers say, "now we got our rock star"?) Well guess Obama was more than just charisma and youth. He is a brilliant well educated man. He is an emotionally mature man who has great leadership skills and ability. Listening to Obama speak in-depth on the history of the Supreme Court and its decision and comparing that to Palin's inability to name a Supreme Court case, other than Roe V Wade, show just how false their empty suit propaganda really was.
