TXCN to Televise First Debate Between 32nd District Congressional Candidates on September 12
Tuesday September 7, 11:30 am ET

DALLAS, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Cable News (TXCN) will televise the first debate between the candidates for United States Congress from the 32nd Congressional District on Sunday, September 12, 2004. The debate is sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Greater Dallas (WACGD) in cooperation with Texas Cable News, and The Dallas Morning News and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
TXCN, Cable Channel 38 in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, will carry the 60-minute debate in its entirety beginning at 7:30 p.m. Central Time, immediately following the regularly scheduled Dallas Cowboy Postgame Show. TXCN will replay the debate Sunday night at 10 p.m.

The contest between Rep. Martin Frost (D-Dallas) and Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) has been identified as one of five key national races by the non- partisan Cook Political Report. Sessions and Frost have agreed to answer questions about international affairs and national security issues.

"We would like to commend the candidates for choosing to discuss international issues," Jim Falk, President of the World Affairs Council said.

According to the Pew Research Center, the 2004 election will be the first since the Vietnam era in which foreign affairs and national security issues are a higher public priority than the economy. Currently, four-in-ten Americans (41%) cite international and defense issues such as the Iraq war and terrorism as the most important problems facing the country, while just a quarter of the public (26%) offers economic concerns.

Rena Pederson, editor at large of The Dallas Morning News, will moderate the debate. Members of the World Affairs Council have been asked to submit questions in advance via email.

TXCN is distributed to customers of Comcast and Charter Communications in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Across Texas, TXCN is also available to customers of Time Warner Cable, Cable One of Texarkana and U.S. Cable of West Texas.
