How to Deal with Obama Sign Stealers

Make your yard sign more permanent. After all, it's harder to steal the entire yard. Emailed to us from an Austin resident...

I need another sign, as mine was stolen. And, tired of having Obama signs stolen from my neighborhood, I decided to make one that can't be (easily) taken; and I spray-painted a giant 14-foot Obama logo on my front yard.

1. I have a friend who uses dog poop
She's got two Great Pyrenees-- takes some of their excrement and cleverly tapes it to the inside of the sign so that when the sign stealers sqeeze it, they get a really foul surprise. A very creatiev approach methinks.

Your yard sign is fantastic! Maybe I'll try that.

2. Cool!
Many of my friends in the Broad Ripple Village area of Indy have had there signs stolen. One guy I know who had his sign stolen twice coated his third sign with a silver iodine solution and vaseline. He said that it is clear until it hits skin and then it creates a dark stain that will allegedly last for weeks.

3. That is cool
Two nights ago every Obama sign up and down our (rural) road was taken. Strangely the McCain signs all are still up. It just makes me so mad. Shows what type of people back McCain.

4. I was thinking of using ...
... the same sticky stuff that is on fly paper to coat the edges of my Obama sign.

The thief would have a hard time getting rid of the stolen property. Maybe that would make him/her think twice about stealing a sign.

I also thought of connecting my sign up to a power outlet, thus "electrifying" my sign. Then again, I don't want to hurt anybody.

I like the idea of the iodine.

5. electric fence charger
Hardware stores and home centers have them as low as $20. run the wire neatly around the perimeter and conceal in the ground, when the buggers grab your sign they will get a hand full of "shock and awe".

6. heard about a guy who used lawn fertilizer on a neighbor's yard
because it stood out in the grass ...

the "attacker" spelled out a nasty word.

as it turned out, the owner of the lawn "hosed off" the fertilizer ... which meant that the fundie lawn owner had the nasty word spelled out in better grass for quite some time ...
