Indiana phone bank workers walk out on sleazy McCain script!
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 04:46 PM by americanstranger
There are still good-hearted Americans out there. As a New Yorker, I say hooray for Indiana!

Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger."

Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it's located in Hobart, IN.

"They walked out," Williams says of her daughter and her co-workers, adding that they weren't fired but willingly sacrificed pay rather than read the lines. "They were told , `If you all leave, you're not gonna get paid for the rest of the day."

The daughter, who wanted her name withheld fearing retribution from her employer, confirmed the story to us. "It was like at least 40 people," the daughter said. "People thought the script was nasty and they didn't wanna read it."

A second worker at the call center confirmed the episode, saying that "at least 30" workers had walked out after refusing to read the script.

Thank you, good Americans.

2. Unfortunately, there will be 30 behind them
who either need the money too bad, or have no scruples. I salute the ones who refused.

4. My hat is off for the thirty to forty workers...
that walked off the job.

If only more people would be like them and sacrifice a little for the good of their country.

5. McCain needs to outsource this work to Macedonia. One of the few countries that supports him.

10. I heard he did just that, or tried to...
.. but instead of Macedonia, I think it was to India ... but not 100% sure of that and have no link, sorry.

12. I would laugh out loud if I got a McCain call from someone
with a very pronounced foreign accent. All his past record favoring outsourcing jobs....

9. It's like a Frank Capra movie, innit?
This campaign is starting to remind me of 'It's A Wonderful Life.' :)

Those Hoosiers can hold their heads high. I am proud to be able share this country with such brave people.

8. I said that that's why they needed the robodialers the other day
because no decent person could do this job in person or on the phone.
