Dozens Of Call Center Workers Walk Off Job In Protest Rather Than Read McCain Script Attacking Obama
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 04:41 PM by RamboLiberal
At least three dozen workers at a telemarking call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger."

Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it's located in Hobart, IN.

"They walked out," Williams says of her daughter and her co-workers, adding that they weren't fired but willingly sacrificed pay rather than read the lines. "They were told , `If you all leave, you're not gonna get paid for the rest of the day."

The daughter, who wanted her name withheld fearing retribution from her employer, confirmed the story to us. "It was like at least 40 people," the daughter said. "People thought the script was nasty and they didn't wanna read it."

2. Well the funny thing is that Obama doesn't pay for callers

McCain and the republicans keep throwing money away on dubious campaign efforts.

3. I wonder why he can't find anyone willing to volunteer to lie to people for free.
They seem willing enough to do it on the way in and out of those rallies.

Maybe they're too lazy to do any proactive lying.

5. Good for them!
In these tough times, it can take a lot of courage to sacrifice a paycheck in order to make a stand on principle.

7. I find this very
AMAZING!

These young people working in call centers most likely really need the money they are making. They aren't getting rich being telemarketers.

The fact that Obama has inspired them so much and that the status of their lives has woken them up to the lies being fed to them and that they got up and walked out rather than compromise themselves speaks volumes about where this election is headed.

No more. No way. No how. No McCain!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for these workers! :patriot: :patriot:

Shame on McSame! Can't he get his own people to do his nasty work instead of inflicting his crap on workers who are then penalized for refusing to sink to his depths?!?!

13. Like Papa Biden.
The way McCain is trying to get people who just need the money to make phone calls against their own interest reminds me of how Joe Biden's father had a boss who threw silver dollars on the floor to watch his employees scramble for them, and when that happened, Biden left the job but saved his dignity.

21. The same script is being used as a robo-call in other states
according to the story, but in Indiana robo-calling is illegal. So now there's two reasons to encourage our state legislatures to follow Indiana's lead--employment and freedom from scripts too slimy for live people to stomach.
