Tell me what McCain/Palin have done to discourage this type of behavior. While we can all agree that Neo Nazi/Skinhead crowd is probably acting on its own, I ask you do you think the tone of the McCain/Palin campaign discourages this type of behavior or encourages it.

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

17. The plotters were 18 and 20 years old. The same age as our soldiers who are dying for Bush.

20. And...? There are lots of people who are 18 and 20. College students, young workers, lots of
voters. I don't get the point of comparing them. Enlighten me please.

3. I think they're going to have no choice but to discourage supporters after this
We now have proof that words CAN move people to do stupid
things, and if they do nothing to quell the anger at their
rallies, they're going to be seen as complicit.

4. I would have to chime in and say that the language
that has been a.) tolerated, and b.) used by the candidates at the McCain/Palin rallies have encouraged this type of thinking. All that talk about the "real" America, and not seeing America like "we" do, etc. What did they expect? They were either willingly playing into the NeoNazi mindset on purpose (IMO) or unwittingly (which I don't buy for a minute, but you could hope).

Sorry, their divisive language is keyed to people who are just waiting to 'act'.

11. It wouldn't matter who he was running against,
the right fringe wackos would try to kill any serious black contender or the presidency.

Agreed McCain camp could do more to discourage hate, but I don't think that groups like skinheads would care. I'm guessing they don't watch too many speeches.

Security around Barack is going to be monumental when he is elected.

12. they've encouraged it!!
Actually it was only a matter of time when something like this could have happened.

McCain tries to give himself and his surrogates an excuse by saying that they can't control everyone in a crowd. Ok, even if that were true (which it's not), do you continue to let people say hateful things even if your own running mate is one of the ones encouraging it?

Even people who do not have hateful tendencies could get caught up in that mood and go on to commit a crime....even if they were not specifically encouraging it. So let's say a person goes to one of those rallies and they hear people say things like 'kill him', Hussein, socialist, muslim and 'he's not like us'. Even a 'normal' person might be affected by something like that!

that the object of the hate filled Palin rallies were intended to push some nut into assassinating Obama.

against McCain, even if not remotely connected to Obama--says or does something a bit unfortunate, McCain, his campaign, and the RW blowhards start squawking about how Obama has failed to repudiate that person and how he must, must, must repudiate that person. But even if someone at McCain's right hand says or does something inappropriate, we hear no calls for McCain or Palin to repudiate anything (except, of course, for Keith's call for McCain to repudiate B-girl Ashley Todd's hoax--but that doesn't count because Keith is one of us).
