STAUNTON — Judgment — on war in Iraq, choosing a running mate and economic policy — is the quality that distinguishes the presidential candidates, former Navy Secretary John Dalton said Sunday at the Staunton Campaign for Change Office.

Dalton, on a tour of Shenandoah Valley campaign offices with Vice Adm. Kevin Cosgriff, called this election the most important of his life and Sen. Barack Obama a “true visionary.”

“He has the ability to bring us together ... and restore our country in the world,” Dalton said to about 20 gathered for a night of campaign phone calls to undecided voters.

Dalton, who said he has met every major party candidate since becoming involved in politics in 1976, called Obama the “most qualified” in that time.

That's Vice Adm. Kevin Cosgriff to the left of Darth Cheney, who is saying, 'I find your lack of faith disturbing...'

He's a Naval Commander- he is very careful to keep his views to himself which makes me think he isn't a Bush fan. He was also raised the same way I was in a very liberal area. I know he is socially very liberal.

I will say that he thinks that regardless of who is elected we will be in the middle east for a long time.
