BREAKING - AP RADIO NEWS: Three Judge Fed Appeals Court blocks Georgia's Voter ID Law
Prevents them from removing voters or requiring IDs and requires them to immediately inform any rejected voters.

Heard this on AP Radio news on the POTUS08 Channel (130) on XM Radio so please don't ask for a link.

5. Maybe maybe not..
the SCOTUS rejected the Republicans on their Ohio lawsuit. It may happen here too.

Who knows?

I'm not a lawyer perhaps someone else here who is can venture a more educated guess.

14. The Ohio decision was not on the merits
Scotus dismissed due to lack of standing. Bush has asked DOJ to look into it, with an obvious eye on refiling. Of, course they need to hurry.

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/27/panel-blocks-georgia-voter-checks-1/

ATLANTA (AP) - Federal judges have ordered Georgia elections officials to stop using Social Security numbers and driver's licenses to check voters' immigration status until the U.S. Justice Department decides whether to approve the process.

Georgia is one of several states that needs federal approval before changing election policy because of a history of discriminatory voting practices.

The three-judge panel's 27-page ruling Monday orders Georgia officials to make "diligent and immediate" efforts to notify voters who have been flagged as ineligible.

It also blocks the state from removing flagged names from voter lists unless voters say in writing that they are ineligible.

13. Look for a request for a stay based on possible irreparable harm
of voters casting their votes and electing a Democrat.

Hey, it worked in 2000.

17. The Eleventh Circuit didn't buy that argument in 2000...
..which is why the Bushites appealed to the Supreme Court Benito Scalia.

The Eleventh is conservative, but it's not a Party apparat.

15. They should set a time
When they have to inform voters.....otherwise some districts may wait until next Monday or Tuesday and call it making a "diligent" effort.

24. Unfortunately it's not the voter ID law that was overturned...
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 10:08 AM by groundloop
It was the secretary of state using social security and driver license data to purge voter roles. Georgia still requires a govt. issued id to vote, that hasn't been overturned (yet).

It is, however, good news for those 50,000 or so voters whose names were illegally purged from the voter roles.
