if he has a stroke or is incapacited before tuesday 11/4 - what happens then?

does the election go on as scheduled - or could the repubs pull some legal technicality out of their ass and have the election postponed until they find a new candidate or vp candidate (if you assume palin would move to top of ticket)?

2. I just thought of that too?
Would she become the Presidential candidate? Is there any legal opinion on this in case this could happen?

3. Elections don't get postponed if a candidate dies.
Horace Greeley, the Dem who ran against President Grant in 1872, died right before the election--and it went on anyway. Grant won, but I'm sure that had Greeley won, electors would have cast their ballots for him but his VP would have ascended to the office on inauguration.

13. The better example would be the MO senate race in 2000.
The incumbent John Ashcroft lost to a deceased opponent.

4. yep. election would happen.
only thing is....historical references could act like Obama's absolute dominance on election day was only due to that bad luck of the candidate for opposing party being incapacitated.

Yes, I know it's wrong. But as I typed my comment I was thinking about McCain's concession speech and phone call to Obama right after his stroke.

6. Man...I was thinking about that just yesterday and today again.
especially in the light of his recurring coughing and throat clearing.
(and his voice doesn't sound nasally, as in a cold)
There must be a process and if it involves RePukes, it also involves something from the ass.

9. election goes on as scheduled
we vote for electors, not for the actual candidates. The electors would then have to figure out who to actually cast their vote for. If McShitUpAndLieAboutIt is disabled or dead, he probably could still get votes from his electors, if he has any.

11. Palinmania would reach new heights
Hallelujah, free at last, free at last! She would hold a press conference at his bedside assuring the nation that she is there to shore things up! She would be walkin the walk in her hand me downs and $35 wedding ring.

12. Early voting has already begun
in many areas... Palin would be in, as far as I know.

Sadly, that is what most of the McCain voters want anyway... and what terrifies most of the remaining SANE voters.

14. If McCain should win ...
... he will be looking over his shoulders all the time.

Todd will have access to the White house and will finish the job for his wife.

Watch out for Mooselini, she is dangerous !
