A Bali Endorsement for Barack Obama

Bali English Language Paper Throws Its Support Behind Senator Obama. Details of Election Day Coverage Party in Bali on November 5th.

Bali News: A Bali Endorsement for Barack Obama
(10/25/2008) While unlikely to prove to be critical to the U.S. electoral process, it's interesting to note that the English language Bali Times has issued its formal endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for U.S. President.

Claiming that the entire world has a stake in who's elected to occupy the U.S. White House, the Bali Time's October 24, 2008, editorial lays the blame for the current unhappy state of the world at the foot of the "catastrophic and hazardous" Bush administration, claiming a McCain administration would only be an elongation of the trials and tribulations of the past eight years.

The Local View

In their editorial endorsement, the Bali Times says: "We like what we have seen of Senator Obama, who was part-educated in this country (and has vacationed in Bali). He comes across as contemplative, intelligent, open-minded – in stark contrast to his opponent, who we deem to have a roasting temper and infamously sang of Iran: 'Bomb, bomb, bomb.' After the long an ruinous years of Bush II White House, such fiery utterances are the absolute last thing the world needs."

Fast forwarding to their hoped for win for Senator Obama, The Times added, "most of all, we look forward to a superpower run by a person with aptitude, understanding and compassion."

Interested in U.S. Politics?

All residents of Bali, irrespective of their citizenship, who have an interest in the outcome of the U.S. elections are invited to join the Wednesday, November 5th "Election Coverage Party" to be held at the Sector Bar and Restaurant located at the Bali Beach Country Club (opposite the Grand Bali Beach Hotel). Admission is free with doors open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.. Live coverage of the election results will be broadcast, American food and beverage will be on sale and decorations reminiscent of a U.S. political convention will form just part of the fun.
