Are your nerves starting to kick in?
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 05:01 AM by Borgnine
No, no, this isn't a "oh noes, we're screwn!11!11" thread. I believe Obama is going to win this handily, GOP vote stealing be damned. Still, we're now eight days away and I'm really starting to feel anxious. I find it hard to eat. I can't sleep (it's 6 AM and I still haven't been to bed). I'm nauseous. I find a semi-permanent ring of flop sweat lingering above my brow. When I'm not sitting down I'm pacing. When I am sitting I'm biting my fingernails.

Am I becoming a basket case? How do you deal with the pre-election jitters?

1. I'm a total mess too. And I think he's gonna win; it's a combination of nerves and excitement

2. I'm not finding it hard to eat
Hell, I'm on a diet, I'm finding it hard not to eat! And, I'm sleeping like a baby (still getting up at 3:00 am to nurse, of course)

3. I don't know what
Sleep is anymore. I've always had sleeping troubles, but for the past month, I'm in the weirdest sleeping patterns, I can be up for 30 hours and only sleep for 4 or 5, then be up for another 20 and sleep for 6, and it repeats.

Although I am confident that Obama is gonna win, I won't be able to completely rest until Nov 5th!

6. Best cure for pre-election jitters:
Volunteer and phone bank in all of your free time. It'll keep you busy and you'll be helping your chances of succeeding.

8. No, but there all talking about taxes.
Just tell them, Obama is going to tax all the new Repubs just as soon as they land on our turf.

10. I've been in high manic mode for three weeks now.
I'm bipolar and have manic stretches, but usually only for a week or so at the longest before the inevitable crash and burn, so this is the longest stretch in almost a year for me. Granted, I have some physical health issues that are a driving force to this, but there's no doubt the election is a big factor as well.

It's like having tickets to a really awesome concert. Those last days before the show seem to drag on and on. I hate the wait! :)

12. I'm a wreck too!
My sleeping, and eating have dropped to subsistence levels. My focus is jumping around like a kangaroo on speed, and I've had to increase my blood pressure medication. I'm trying to stay busy at my jewelry bench, plus do some heavy work every day. Today I ripped the old roofing off the woodshed, and will try to get the new stuff up before it rains.

I feel like the night before I sat for the state boards for my RN. Only it's every day for weeks, and growing worse as E day approaches.

11. I can't recall a time during this (general) election season that I haven't been a nervous wreck
I've become addicted to DU, worry about any negative change in the polls for Obama, hyper alert for some kind of last-minute "game-changer" or, more importantly, election fraud that could result in McCain/Palin somehow managing to win. I honestly don't think that I'll get a good night's sleep until the election is called for Obama and McCain concedes. Frankly, I just don't know how well I would be able to handle it if McCain/Palin SOMEHOW win and if the Democrats can't win in such a favorable environment and, more importantly, going into an election with such a strong position, I don't know how they could continue to exist.

I try to focus as much as I can on the fact that we are going into this election in a much stronger position than we have been during the past two elections, Obama's getting the support of some Republicans and is seriously threatening McCain on his own "turf" (something Gore and Kerry didn't do), there are lots of newly registered voters and early voting turnout appears to be high and is expected to be high on election day thus likely blunting the impact of electoral shenanigans, and "the force" generally seems to be on our side this year.

I am enjoying this period of time. I expect the next week to be rather strange, as the republicans become more desperate.

17. Cannot willnot be able to relax until Nov 5
I eat too much and sleep erratically and spend way way too much time reading posts on DU! I am nervous! I have been canvassing in Virginia and when you are walking through a neighborhood that is half Mccain and Half Obama its unsettling. I lie in MD which is solid blue so I am not used to being around so many McCain supporters. I feel for people in red states. that must be difficult.

But when i do meet people who are pro obama it always makes me feel so so so much better.

18. I can't hardly sleep. And when I do I dream about McCain and Obama.
And I alternate between feeling great about the poll numbers, and then dread at the prospect of defeat.

24. Well, I made it through a big nerve-racking weekend in Cinncinati....
I picked up three medals in a big figure-skating competition there, and passed my Intermediate Moves-in-the-Field (figure-skating) test. I'm feeling a lot better than I was, that's for sure! :bounce:
