My dad still embarasses and depresses me.
Tonight he said,"If McCain wins, all I can say is 'Thank God for prejudice.'"

My neck hurts from all the head shaking.

9. Do Not Laugh at the FIL. Resist this impulse at all costs.
A giggle or two is okay.

Good luck Tesla.

7. reminds me of a bumper sticker my neighbor has "If the Republicans' fiscal policy is so great,
then why do they have to cater to the religious right to win elections?"

8. Try humor or kind acts of educating him...
Life is too short to cut off your dad for being such a fool.

Give him a book about Africa, the roots of jazz or other subjects that emphasize African culture.

10. Unfortunately, we don't get to choose our families.
My sister and her husband voted for Dino Rossi here in WA because they resent the higher gas taxes that have happened under Gregoire. This from a couple who have have 45K in their CHECKING ACCOUNT.

The only thing I look forward to about my mother's death is never having to see those two again.

13. Look at your dad and sigh. We are what we are because of where we have been. Your dad may be
ignorant about race, but I bet there are things about him that good and descent also.

It's to bad, but we don't get to pick our parents, just like they don't get to pick us.

Concentrate on the good things about him. I have the same problem with my dad, and when he says something like that, I say to myself:

Lord, forgive my dad of his ignorance, and while you are at it lord, forgive me for my own ignorance.
