Could fake Poll Numbers backfire on Bushistas?
I was just watching the news, for the first time since Friday afternoon. I'm watching the new "bounce" numbers, and every single news outlet I've seen is listing ONLY the "likely voters," which most regular DU'er know is a meaningless figure during this election cycle. And that is what made me think...could this tactic -- of reporting only the "likely voter" poll numbers (which, if you are not familiar, is nothing of the sort. It is only a poll of voters who actualy voted for Gore or Bush in 2000, not voters who are "likely to vote.") -- actually hurt the Bush campaign by even further energizing the anti-Bush crowd to get to the polls to vote the bum out?

Do they actually expect that we'll say "aw, gosh, Bush is winning now, there is no point in voting"? I'm thinking this will only turn up the heat. Just my 2 cents. Still a lot of news to catch up on...it appears the Bush forces have been in full bullshit mode this weekend.

BTW, my all-time fave is the OB-GYN comment! LOL! No wonder he wants to limit malpractice awards...those patients who felt the love of an OB-GYN must be costing them a fortune!!

Vote for Kerry-Edwards Here!

1. I wonder if we can start a class action suit against Bush for damages
wrought on this country due to incompetence of the Executive Office. If there was every a more justifiable tort action with a larger group of plaintiffs, I'd like to see it.

2. I do think the puffed upTime/Newsweek numbers will work to our
advantage when they melt away and Bush keeps making idiotic statements.

4. I think that they will backfire in a different way.
Bush's numbers are going down and it will look like he is plummiting from the 11 point bounce. Bushco likes to control expectations. The fake 11 point bounce is not what they wanted.

7. Here is one of those doctors Bush was talking about.
Here is the judgement against a doctor in Alexandria, Virginia who fathered children with at least one of his patients each month from 1976 to 1986.

In early 1992, Dr. Cecil B. Jacobson, a physician, was convicted

of 52 felony counts for mail fraud, wire fraud, travel fraud, and per-

jury. See United States v. Jacobson, No. 92- 5406, slip op. (4th Cir.

Sept. 3, 1993) (unpublished), cert. denied, 62 U.S.L.W. 3717, 3722

(U.S. May 2, 1994). These criminal offenses stemmed in part2 from

Jacobson's misconduct in implementing a fraudulent sperm donor

scheme in which he injected his own sperm into his patients instead

of the promised sperm of the patient's husband or an anonymous

donor during artificial insemination procedures at his fertility clinic,

Reproductive Genetics Center, Ltd. St. Paul Fire & Marine Ins. Co.

v. Jacobson, 826 F. Supp. 155, 158 (E.D. Va. 1993).3 As a result of

these activities, which were brought into public light by the 1992

_________________________________________________________________

1 Jacobson and Reproductive Genetics Center, which Jacobson owned

and operated, are the named defendants in the suit before us today. We

refer to defendants collectively as Jacobson.

2 Jacobson's criminal convictions involved various schemes designed

to lure patients into his fertility clinic. See 826 F. Supp. at 158 n.2.

3 Jacobson admitted that he intentionally inseminated patients at his

clinic with his own sperm approximately once a month during the time

period from 1976 to 1986.
