LTTE says: Zell's speech as important as Gettysburg

LTTE says: Zell's speech as important as Gettysburg
Someone phoned in the following opinion to the Appleton Post Crescent:

"We heard a true statesman speak the evening of Sept. 2. Sen. Zell Miller's bipartisan address at this time in our history may well be equal in importance to Lincoln's Gettysburg Address in 1863. May it awaken all Americans to use their freedom to vote and result in protection of our families and our great country."

Of course, he didn't say WHO to vote for. I assume he wants us to vote for Kerry, since Bush has made America less safe because of his actions after 9/11.

3. Someone should tell that guy to look the word "bipartisan" up
in the dictionary. That's the LAST word I'd use to describe Zell's speech.

5. Zell's speech was the trashing of a great man
Lincoln's speech was about reuniting a nation divided bitterly by civli war and to pay tribute to the brave people who fought at Gettysburg. Zell's speech isnt anything like the Gettysburg adress, what a disgraceful thing to say.

6. Zell Miller is Abraham Lincoln and George Bush is Winston Churchill
according to Rudy Giuliani, who compared Bush to Winston Churchill in his speech at the convention. That comparison of Bush to Churchill left me in stunned silence for several moments. And I suppose tomorrow Dick Cheney will be favorably compared to Martin Luther King giving the "I've Got A Dream" speech, or maybe to Mahatma Gandhi.

If Zell Miller were Lincoln, he might have delivered a positive, conciliatory, elevating message of peace, with no malice or hatred for others, such as that given by Abraham Lincoln for his 2nd Inaugural address, which includes the following:

"...With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations."
