McCain/Palin NBC Interview: Fake, Elite America is in NYC, DC
Per Ben Smith's blog at Politico; some of the highlights from tonight's airing of the McCain/Palin Joint Interview with Brian Williams:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Fake_America_located.html?showall

WILLIAMS: Who is a member of the elite?

PALIN: Oh, I guess just people who think that they're better than anyone else. And-- John McCain and I are so committed to serving every American. Hard-working, middle-class Americans who are so desiring of this economy getting put back on the right track. And winning these wars. And America's starting to reach her potential. And that is opportunity and hope provided everyone equally. So anyone who thinks that they are-- I guess-- better than anyone else, that's-- that's my definition of elitism.

WILLIAMS: So it's not education? It's not income-based? It's--

PALIN: Anyone who thinks that they're better than someone else.

WILLIAMS: --a state of mind? It's not geography?

PALIN: 'Course not.

WILLIAMS: Senator?

MCCAIN: I-- I know where a lot of 'em live. (LAUGH)

WILLIAMS: Where's that?

MCCAIN: Well, in our nation's capital and New York City. I've seen it. I've lived there. I know the town. I know-- I know what a lot of these elitists are. The ones that she never went to a cocktail party with in Georgetown. I'll be very frank with you. Who think that they can dictate what they believe to America rather than let Americans decide for themselves.

I'm sure the residents of New York City and Washington, DC, the two cities attacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001, will be surprised to learn that they are anti-American elitists, according to John McCain. :eyes:

7. EXACTLY.
An "elite" interviewer would have called him out immediately on his attacks on two of the greatest American cities, New York and our nation's capital, Washington.

And for what it's worth, here's the common definition of "elite":

NOUN - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

I remember a time when "elite" was a good word. As in, "The Navy SEALs are an "elite" task force."

5. I'm definitely an elitist, then, because I think I'm better than someone else
I think that I'm a better driver than someone who doesn't know how to drive.

Therefore, I'm an elitist.

Good job, dumbass, for another completely nonsensical response.

27. Um, McCain has house in VA!
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 03:12 PM by nannycee
Since that is where one of John McCain's homes are:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12700.html

"The new properties joined three previously owned by Cindy McCain, her dependent children and their trusts: a scenic ranch outside Sedona, Ariz., where John McCain has entertained staff, prospective running mates and political reporters; a three-bedroom Arlington, Va., condo that's been John McCain's Washington-area residence since 1993; a La Jolla, Calif. condo that is home to Cindy McCain's elderly aunt and on which the trust recently paid nearly $7,000 in back taxes."

like McCain himself doesn't. They live in Not Real Virginia.

32. Oh well good, then I'm not elitist.
Glad we got that settled up. Because I certainly don't think I'm better than anyone else. And if Palin would bother to crack open a book, I'd suggest she start with Garrison Keillor's great little tome "Homegrown Democrat" for some education on how Democrats feel that we AREN'T more special than others and that's part of the POINT, in fact a big part--you don't let other people's cheese flap in the wind, you don't let people die in the gutter, you CARE FOR EACH OTHER because you AREN'T any more special than anyone else and if we're not here to take care of each other, then what the hell are we here for?

33. I am confused:
To be an elitist, do you have to be better than anyone else? meaning if you think you're better than just one other person, then you're and elitist?

Or do you have to be better than everyone else, meaning you don't think there is anyone better than you?

In any case, either we are all elitist, or none are. I know I think I am better than at least one other person, but I don't think I am better than all other people on the face of the earth.

Besides, isn't the whole American dream about believing that you're better than the next guy, or at least strive to be?

34. that doesn't make any sense
I mean I watched the olympics this summer. Clearly their are a lot of people way better at sports than me. I don't understand her at all. Better as undefined. McCain's answer is just offensive at every level. Palin's answer is so vague it could mean anything, but McCain's is vulgar.
