Anti-Obama sign fuels debate
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 07:41 AM by MaineDem

NEW GLOUCESTER — Robert Horr insists that his political sign is just intended to provoke debate about the presidential candidates' backgrounds and their qualifications to lead the military.

Paul Proudian, who stopped by to see it for himself this week, views the sign very differently: as a deceitful attempt to mischaracterize the Democratic candidate.

Proudian says the sign appeals to the worst in people's fears, with ethnic and religious overtones, and tries to show Republican John McCain as "more American" than Barack Obama.

Erected in Horr's driveway on Gloucester Hill Road and visible from busy Route 100, the 8-foot-by-12-foot sign features life-size representations of Obama, shown wearing a turban and the traditional dress of a Somali elder, and McCain, shown dressed in a military flight suit.

Alongside Obama's picture are the words "Never served in the military," and above it is his full name, Barack Hussein Obama.

I'm so disgusted that this happens in Maine. Or anywhere for that matter.

3. I agree, but perhaps they don't want to make this into a media circus.

I do think it's wrong, but just imagine the hordes of Fox-like media swarming into town if this issue catches fire. The idiot that owns the sign wants to be another Joe the plumber.

Frustrating, to be sure.

4. Obama never cost the military over $40 million in wrecked aircraft
But, it doesn't really matter. There is no military qualification to become president.

And McCain wasn't that good at it anyway, that's for sure.

7. poor, rural Maine tilts Republican
It's amazing, isn't it? How the people who have the most to lose under McCain, who are already beneficiaries of "Socialism", are voting against their own interests.

I don't know if it's a lack of education or merely a dozen missing IQ points, but you have to wonder how people could be so stupid.

10. I live in rural Maine. At the local grocery store yesterday...
I was checking out and the clerk commented on my Obama/Biden pin. She said she wanted to order one but she'd never get it in time to wear before the election. I dug into my pocketbook and got her one. The clerk at the next register said she wanted one too. I only had a "Yes We Can" button left but she said she liked that ever better. So I made two young women very happy. And this is in a very very Republican area.

It's trending well for us. But, obviously, there is hate out there that we can never overcome.

14. Attention Horr
That's all these people are, anything to get a 30 second spot on the news, whether it's hanging Obama in effigy, putting up a stupid poster, wearing a Klan outfit, let them do what they want. I hope it eats them from the inside out when Obama is their lord and master. We'll see in a couple of weeks. Yes, I will be gloating!
