My sister told me on the phone today that she is afraid of Obama
because she thinks he has socialist views.

I asked her inasmuch as we are both (she and I) retired, on social security with medicare, and we enjoy police and fire protection, and go to the public library, and just recently bought a bunch of banks, how is that bad - exactly.

She was real quiet for a moment, and then invited me over for coffee tomorrow.

These are exciting and fun times. Tomorrow I get to tell her that Ms ret88 and I voted for Obama Monday (early voting started here.)

5. I challenge anyone who is "afraid of socialism" .....

6. When somebody says that ...
Just reply with this >>>>> "Define Socialism" It's usually checkmate at that point. Wrap it up by saying >>>> "Thats what I thought"

It works for me.

8. People never
stop to think about how our society is structured - We pay taxes for the common good. The money goes into one big socialist pot and redistributed. duh. (not saying your sister is dumb - just hasn't thought about it.) :)

11. No offense to your sister, but I bet anyone that's afraid of socialism has no idea what it is.
Kind of like thinking "spreading the wealth" is a bad thing. McCain tells them so they think it's bad.

14. People who see boogeymen and socialists around every corner
and yet like to drive on paved roads for free have me completely flummoxed.
