The guy who created these signs is named Clinton Slagle. He's got a confederate tattoo on his arm. He strolled into our headqtrs back during the primary looking for a sign, saying Obama was the only person who made any sense to him....

running campaign ads (Fred Thompson does the narrative). Thad Cochran hasn't had to run campaign ads - he is an incumbent, a shoe in, a republican in Mississippi.

Something tells me their internal polls have told them that its not going to be a certainty that Mississippi will remain red.

Regional pride for many, and for the history scholars (amateur or otherwise), it's a specific artifact of the war - a battle standard. Shelby Foote said it was unfortunate that it was hijacked by the Klan and other yahoos, because it destroyed the real meaning of the flag, which he defended as a once honorable symbol. He attributed its perversion to a failure of southern intellectuals standing up and condemning its misuse as the civil rights movement gained traction.

Southern culture is not as homogenized as many think. Quite a few southerners pride themselves on being independent thinkers, and that is clearly the mindset of the gentleman in the photograph. I welcome his support of Obama. :thumbsup:

I always liked it. This was the 70's when I was a rebelling teenager. Southern Rock:puke:

Of course I was a huge Neil Young Fan :loveya: I still am as far as that goes.

However, as I got older I understood how hurtful the Flag is to so many people that I changed my mind about it being a kewl symbol.
