"speculate that McCain may be starting to blame Palin for his campaign's collapse" (updated)

Off The Rails

10.22.08 -- 5:28PM By Josh Marshall

MSNBC just ran what we can only call an extraordinary interview with NBC News' Chuck Todd and Brian Williams. They were discussing the interview NBC just did with John McCain and Sarah Palin. We'll have the video shortly. But what really stood out was the candidness of Todd's discussion of the wheels possibly coming off McCain's campaign, his willingness to discuss the tension between the two candidates and even to speculate that McCain may be starting to blame Palin for his campaign's collapse.

That's obviously speculation on Todd's part. But ... Well, wait to see it yourself.

(Video: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/239185.php">Todd and Williams Tag Team Attack McCain/Palin)

Infighting. Yay!

Update:

Let's summarize. Palin doesn't know McCain's own positions. Earlier this week she criticized his robocalling messages. The conservative base is practically bursting at the seams waiting to dump McCain after November 4th and embrace Palin as the future of the party. And to top it all off, it has to be hellishly embarrassing to sit beside her during an interview and be forced to pretend that she's talking like an actual adult while she's spouting her usual stream of index card nonsense.

So, yeah, he's probably not comfortable with her yet. I suspect McCain knows perfectly well what's in store from the Palin camp after they lose the election. Loyalty to her mentors, after all, is not exactly her strong suit.

1. He was 100% sure of his great choice in the first installment
of the Brian Williams interview.....she even went on to say how much more experience she has than Barack Obama...the interview sucked....they both did various versions of their stump speeches and Brian just sat there.

3. The body language was pretty interesting in the short clip shown...
Of course McShame will blame someone else, but he chose to change his campaign staff, he chose to listen to them, he chose Psycho Sarah ~ ultimately he chose to sell his soul to the most extreme elements of his party.

4. I really hope someone inside that campaign writes a book
when this is all over. This has to be one of the most dysfunctional Presidential campaigns ever.

8. Maybe McCain hadn't seen the bills for the over $150,000
spent on Palin's wardrobe by the campaign. I seriously do not get how that is a reasonable campaign expenditure. Consider that by the time she was picked, there were less than 75 days before the election. Even if she couldn't wear the same thing twice (HRC looked good and many things reappeared more than once) - a very unreal assumption. That would be $2000 for each day's clothes. (If she intended to wear everything twice - that would be $4000.

10. And Chris ends with, "OK, it's great". And even though he was likely cut off,
it still sounded pretty cool. But how about Todd just harping on the bad vibe. The bad body english. Whoa, very telling from a seasoned observer. Or at least someone who thinks he is. Brian just let him go with it too. Very cool. They're disintegrating from within.

17. Wow. For Todd to say that it must be bad
And their campaign must be so weak that he has no fear of catching any serious flak for it.

18. The McCain gimmick has backfired BIGTIME!
Fuck him for his weak-assed attempt to pick up all those disenfranchised Hillary supporters. Next time, try to pick a woman with brains and integrity. Oh wait, there won't be a next time. Thank God for that.

Fuck you McCain, you suck ass and always will.

20. Yeah, he probably didn't count on
Hillary supporters actually having brains or anything.

I wasn't a Hillary supporter myself, but I do have the utmost respect for her intelligence and the intelligence of the people (esp women) who did support her.

21. Thank goodness it has!
Agreed completely - I was a Hillary supporter who quickly came over to the Obama side of things once Hillary threw in the towel (no hesitation on my part!). McShame's pandering to Hillary supporters was insulting to the nth degree - not that I would EVER support him, but he could have at least chosen a woman with a good head on her shoulders (and not just a semi-pretty face!).

19. What the hell is he talking about?
When was his campaign ever inflated to begin with?

Oh yeah...for about five minutes after people found out Sarah Palin was his running mate.

Then people got a little disenchanted with her. Hey, it's not her fault she's stupid. His "people" should have checked her out a little more thoroughly, probably.

Misogynistic old bastard probably blames women for everything that goes wrong in his life.

Er...not that I'm sticking up for Palin or anything, because I really can't stand her.
