"This like waiting for the results of a biopsy." Larry David

Waiting for Nov. 4th

I can't take much more of this. Two weeks to go, and I'm at the end of my rope. I can't work. I can eat, but mostly standing up. I'm anxious all the time and taking it out on my ex-wife, which, ironically, I'm finding enjoyable. This is like waiting for the results of a biopsy. Actually, it's worse. Biopsies only take a few days, maybe a week at the most, and if the biopsy comes back positive, there's still a potential cure. With this, there's no cure. The result is final. Like death.

Five times a day I'll still say to someone, "I don't know what I'm going to do if McCain wins." Of course, the reality is I'm probably not going to do anything. What can I do? I'm not going to kill myself. If I didn't kill myself when I became impotent for two months in 1979, I'm certainly not going to do it if McCain and Palin are elected, even if it's by nefarious means. If Obama loses, it would be easier to live with it if it's due to racism rather than if it's stolen. If it's racism, I can say, "Okay, we lost, but at least it's a democracy. Sure, it's a democracy inhabited by a majority of disgusting, reprehensible turds, but at least it's a democracy." If he loses because it's stolen, that will be much worse. Call me crazy, but I'd rather live in a democratic racist country than a non-democratic non-racist one. (It's not exactly a Hobson's choice, but it's close, and I think Hobson would compliment me on how close I've actually come to giving him no choice. He'd love that!)

The one concession I've made to maintain some form of sanity is that I've taken to censoring my news, just like the old Soviet Union. The citizenry (me) only gets to read and listen to what I deem appropriate for its health and well-being. Sure, there are times when the system breaks down. Michele Bachmann got through my radar this week, right before bedtime. That's not supposed to happen. That was a lapse in security, and I've had to make some adjustments. The debates were particularly challenging for me to monitor. First I tried running in and out of the room so I would only hear my guy. This worked until I knocked over a tray of hors d'oeuvres. "Sit down or get out!" my host demanded. "Okay," I said, and took a seat, but I was more fidgety than a ten-year-old at temple. I just couldn't watch without saying anything, and my running commentary, which mostly consisted of "Shut up, you prick!" or "You're a fucking liar!!!" or "Go to hell, you cocksucker!" was way too distracting for the attendees, and finally I was asked to leave.>>>>snip

1. If McCain "wins", I'm seriously making plans to move to Vegas....
I'll have as much luck there as I'll have under his administration. May as well just start playing some cards full time.

2. It's fucking agonizing
Can we all FUCKING VOTE ALREADY!?!?! I'm eating snack food all the time. Think and talk about it at work, thinking of everyone I meet, "are you for or against?" I no longer socially communicate with people who don't share my obsession (what's amazing is the number who do). I fall asleep to TIVO'd news shows every night. I haven't closed DU on my lap top in two months. I check the NYT and WaPo web sites 10 times daily at work. Lately I've taken to trolling FR to keep up with 'the enemy.'

I'm going to need a 12 step program for this when it's all over.

10. Join my club of one! Hubby thinks I'm crazy. I'm on MSNBC all the time.
It's on when he leaves in the morning and on at night when he gets home. I am retired so I have LOTS of time to do this, as well as be on DU half the day.

Mercifully, I am going to Spain tomorrow and will be there until I return on MOnday, November 3rd, the day before Election Day. I did, however, take the precaution of voting AB at city hall. So I'm done there.

I will be in Madrid and Barcelona so I can prolly get CNN and the International Herald Tribune there but I will also be in little towns in the Basque lands so I will be OUT OF TOUCH for several days!!! OMG!!!

Well, I was in Italy during the 06 election and didn't find out about the outcome of the Senate tally until I was wandering around Sienna. Did a little victory dance in the Campo.

It'll be interesting to hear from the Spaniards what they think of our election...

3. I'm going crazy too
I watch the news 24/7 and am constantly reading the DU. I am completely obsessed.

I've been volunteering which can be frustrating because you find out how many ignorant people there are out there. i can't stand Mccain supporters. They fill me with rage

On the plus side everytime I hear Obama speak and I am filled with hope. he is amazing. We have to believe

4. I can relate
If there wasn't a mute button on the remote, I couldn't watch some the shows I watch regularly.

12. Yes, told my brother last night the almost exact same
I can't take this anymore. And I'm a political junkie, and here I am on DU. But still, this has got to end, and quick. Eight years waiting is long enough.

13. It's like waiting for a "I'm sure there's nothing there but we'll do one just in case" biopsy!

14. I'm usually obsessed but this is around the time where
I tune out the polls. Unless something phenomenally major happens between now and Nov. 3, the polls have mostly flattened out. The pundits can argue about the differences between "Likely Voters" and "Registered Voters", "landlines" and "cell phones".. but the RCP clearly shows the polls have pretty much set.

We've all been talking about +6 to +11 now for the last week and I don't see that changing.

So at this point, I don't care what polls have to say.
No room for complacency - ignore the polls and GOTV!

15. My SO says my head is going to explode on Nov 5
either way - no polls to check, no campaign gossip, no reason to obsessively listen to Stephanie, Thom and Randi - what am I going to DO with myself.

The Greatest will probably have like 1 new post an hour!

Almost 12 days left..........geez

Unbelievable. "I can't subject other people to me in my current condition. I just don't like what I've turned into -- and frankly I wasn't that crazy about me even before the turn."

18. I feel your pain.
I do not sleep. I am cranky. I cry when I'm alone. I'd drink if I didn't have 22 years of sobriety. My cat hates me. I forgot to feed him before I left for GOTV training and the local dem debate. I have become someone else. Obama needs to win this or I am done.
