Even Mondale in '84 drew large enthusiastic crowds (compared to McCain)
(for a losing campaign McCain's crowds (15 at one stop!) are pathetic--it shows the base really doesn't like him)

11/1/1984, New York City (100,000 people)
During a long campaign day Thursday,
Mondale drew an estimated 100,000 people
for a rally in New York's Garment District,
punctuated by enthusiastic cheers in a traditional
campaign atmosphere of confetti,

"I want this country to see where I am
coming from and where I am going," he told a
crowd of about 5,000. "I want to reflect our
values here in the Midwest," he said, adding
that Reagan deserved to be "spanked" for the
farm policies adopted by his administration.
But it was in Minneapolis where Mondale
recalled his origins and said, "Tonight, I
ended my campaign as I started it, in Minnesota."

Now we've got to win this election
for many reasons," Mondale
told more than 15,000 cheering
supporters crowded into Victory
Square at noon Monday in blustery
downtown Seattle. "First of all, tomy
fellow Norwegians of Washington,
this nation has discriminated
against us for 200 years and
it's time that a Norwegian was
elected president of the United
States!"

1. Oh, how I wish he was elected that year.
History would have taken a much better course, and the international scene would be much more stable right now.
