Was the disastrous choice of Sarah Palin as McCain's VP running mate a case of Republican campaign 'strategizers' buying their own bullshit?
For months the Right Wing Radio Hate Fest's Operation Chaos pretended that they were wrecking our chances in november by creating the long contest between Obama and Clinton (they weren't, the contest was real enough without their negligible or nonexistent 'help'.) And their endgame in this nonsense was their real enough but pathetic PUMA Stunt wherein supposedly vast numbers of disaffected Clinton women were leaving the party to vote for the folks who would transform The Handmaid's Tale from fiction to fact. The idea was to create this fictional mass exit, from message boards, live on tv, and on other media outlets, in order to manufacture a factional breakup in our party. We saw it in action here on DU.
The otherwise inexplicable choice of the most unqualified major party vice presidential candidate in modern history is perhaps best explained by the strategizer's believing that there really were vast covens of disaffected Clintonistas who would be sucked into their world of rightwing whacko misogyny by putting Governor Palin on the ticket. They created a fictional narrative to draw in confused (and obviously in their opinion massively stupid) women voters, and promptly fell for their own nonsense, actually believing that there was this demographic of disaffected former Clinton supporters who were theirs for the picking if they just put up a women on the ticket.
If they weren't so totally incompetent they would be truly dangerous.
