and like everyone else, I simply followed orders and just sat there!

That is what he might as well have said about this test he took.
John McCain made no decision and was not tested. He simply followed orders.
His "I've been tested" is utterly meaningless and he should be called on it.

McCain raises spectre of nuclear war
Source: Associated Press

John McCain raised the spectre of nuclear war as he struggled to overcome rival Barack Obama's widening lead in the polls with just 14 days left in the epic race to the White House.
-snip-
"I sat in the cockpit on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise off of Cuba. I had a target," McCain said, referring to the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis.

"I know how close we came to a nuclear war and I will not be a president that needs to be tested. I have been tested. Senator Obama has not."

But the Arizona senator's campaign was smarting after a poll by the Pew Research Centre showed Obama ahead by 14 points, and an investigation of Republican funds indicated more than $US150,000 ($A221,500) spent on clothes for his running mate Sarah Palin.

1. If McCain had been in charge ...
Florida and Cuba would be be described with the term "half-life" ...

3. Nobody wants to say it, and it probably isn't a tactic to use; however

John McCain has been tested repeatedly and found wanting. When he was a POW, he cracked and confessed, repeatedly helping his captors. Not pissing on him for that, but that is a fact.

When the missile accident happened aboard that aircraft carrier, John McCain saved himself and instead of helping those whose planes were aflame and whose men were dying, he ran inside and downstairs to the tv room to watch it from the safety of the cabin. Then took a few fun days off for some R&R in another country. I do piss on him for that, and also grabbing the spotlight when a reporter showed up to question the "heroic admiral's son" who saved the day - McCain pretended right along that he was a hero, when in fact he was a complete bottom of the class coward with zero integrity.

When he came back from 'Nam and had a chance to help other POW families learn the fate of their loved ones, he treated them with anger, disrespect, and almost hit one of the POW family members in a fit of temper. They hate him for that, as they should. Tested and found wanting again.

There are other instances, even from his personal life in the way he treats all women as objects, ditched his first injured now "too ugly to hang with John" first wife Carol, and then the continuing emotional abuse and neglect of Cindy. fpr example - but they all reach the same conclusion.

Tested, and found to be someone that none of us can trust to do the right thing for ALL of us.
