Since he's held experience with showing up at the site of ruins, he came here Monday to our rust belt to survey the aftermath left behind from eight years of GWB economics and two terms of Republican Governor Bob Taft.
He arrived here in Trumbull County, the Democratic stronghold in Ohio that once held thousands of good union jobs, to help raise support for continued Republican good times by urging out of work autoworkers, unemployment benefit exhausted steel workers, and recently failed small businessmen to get out and vote for McCain/Palin.
Sir Rudy's first stop in the county was clearly aimed at meeting with "the little people" of Trumbull County. He arrived for a late afternoon dinner at "The Chophouse", a fine dining establishment located at the Trumbull Country Club, where he had opportunity to chat with reporters while waiting for his steak and baked potato to be served at his table.
Personally, I've never had the chance (or the money) to dine at The Chophouse, but one of my still employed friends tells me it's rather good. I'm sure at sometime between the appetizer and main course Giuliani had a chance to speak to a working class voter by looking over his ornately garnished plate and mumbling a "thank you" to the server without the uncomfortable need to actually look him in the eye.
To compare, last month The Hope For America bus stopped in town so the Obamas and Bidens could catch an early lunch. They came to a local restaurant called "The Yankee Kitchen". The place is frequented by truck drivers and families alike, and features home-style meals at affordable prices. The Bidens and Obamas stayed for about 45 minutes to talk to diners about the issues facing them and their families. I
have eaten at The Yankee Kitchen, and I know from experience the entire tab at the Obama table was probably equal to Sir Rudy's steak dinner.
Then "America's Disaster" was off to do some high profile campaignin' at the Warren Republican HQ, where he did some good old fashioned phone banking. It must have been quite a coincidence that the only call witnessed by reporters was to an avid supporter in nearby rural Mecca Township. The name on the list was at work (lucky dog), but his wife Joan was more than happy to speak to Giuliani. She described her husband as a "Republican through and through".
The retired school teacher, who describes
herself an independent (?), found time to stop cooking her homemade beef & noodle soup and watching her grand daughter to hear the Disaster Mayor's plea for a third Buxh term. He asked her if she "thought the media was being fair to Sarah Palin".
"No. I've been upset because the media plays her like she's not very bright, kind of like on 'Saturday Night Live', Malibu Barbie," Joan said. "I don't think that is fair to women. I feel she has been wrongly picked on because she is a woman, and that makes me upset."
What luck! What a grand slam that the staged call went to an "undecided" that just happened to love Rudy, Sarah, apple pie, baseball,
and Chevrolet!
Before hanging up, "Independent Joan" managed to, and I quote:
"thank Giuliani for 9/11", later adding to reporters "I always wanted to write him and tell him." "I was really happy to do that".
Good to see Joan and her husband aren't just your typical stupid Republicans.
They know who to "thank" for 9/11.
America's Cross-dresser left the staff at RNC headquarters with some advice: "ignore the polls and continue work to elect McCain".
Great advice Rudy, now please don't let our rusty and broke down screen door hit you on your way out of town, but first...
Here's one more local poll I want you to look at, one you can embrace and kiss:
