So what Republican could endorse Obama...
...and be impossible for the Republican yahoo contingent to rationalize?

I was really surprised (although I guess I shouldn't be) to see the reaction on the right to Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama. I knew that they would do their best to try and write it off as somehow inconsequential, but I was amazed by the speed and decisiveness with which Powell's motives were presumed to be dubious. I kind of thought that he was someone who the Republicans revered and whose views, contrary though they may have been, would be difficult for them to dismiss. I guess I was wrong.

So what would it take? What Republican would have to come out for Obama for the Jonestown wing of the GOP to pause and finally ask themselves, "Wow, is it possible that we're supporting a shitty candidate with obsolete views and discredited policies, and whose choice of running mate alone disqualifies him from the presidency?"

I literally can't think of one. I think that Saint Ronnie himself could rise from the grave and endorse Obama and immediately the Norquists and the Kristols and the Lowrys would call him a socialist.

3. When it was reported that Reagan had voted for Clinton
Republicans began claiming he had gone senile. So they'd rather burn their idols than admit the truth.

9. No, they already think Hagel is a traitor
His endorsement wouldn't give them pause. I think it would have to be Rush or Dobson or maybe Newty, but honestly I think they would cannibalize anybody who turned away from the dark side and move on, regardless of how iconic he had been to them before.

8. Limbaugh said that if you're worried about your 401k, you should vote for Obama.

He offered that advice to his own staff, live over the air.

10. General Patreus. I would piss myself with glee if he did so....
though he can't, since he's active duty, I'm sure.

But still, I can fantasize. Heads would EXPLODE all over freeperland. LOL.

Oh wait, how about NANCY REAGAN?

I hope she is healing....and Obama's dear Toots as well.

13. Richard Lugar.
He's previously endorsed McCain, so this is improbable. But he clearly thinks well of Obama and, it's been speculated, privately wants him to win. Certainly Lugar wouldn't be unhappy with an Obama victory.

A Lugar endorsement would be a big deal in Indiana. It would also be hard for Buchanan et al. to besmirch.
