Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 12:47 PM by GreenPartyVoter
believe that violent criminals should receive mandatory sentences for going to jail, or some such thing.

Anyone else get that robo-call and catch what he said?

Editing to say that TPM emailed me the text:

Hi, this is Rudy Giuliani, and I'm calling for john McCain and the Republican National Committee because you need to know that Barack Obama opposes mandatory prison sentences for sex offenders, drug dealers, and murderers. It's true, I read Obama's words myself. And recently, Congressional liberals introduced a bill to eliminate mandatory prison sentences for violent criminals — trying to give liberal judges the power to decide whether criminals are sent to jail or set free. With priorities like these, we just can't trust the inexperience and judgment of Barack Obama and his liberal allies. This call was paid for by the Republican National Committee and McCain-Palin 2008 at 866 558 5591.

6. also, you may want to report it to politico or TPM
they have been posting all of the reported robocalls....might be an easier way for the Obama camp to become aware of it (though they probably get other reports too)

ask him how it feels to spend 60 million dollars to win one delegate.

McCain's campaign is all over the place.

11. And it's odd to play that one here in Maine. Granted I live in a rural part of it so perhaps
I am out of touch with the city dwellers in the state, but crime is not really a huge concern to me, at least in terms of my area. (I do have issues with how the justice system is run, but that wasn't exactly what was being dealt with in the call.)

15. It must be nice to be in rural Maine. Is that the area where
McCain/Palin people hope to pick up a single electoral vote? Northern Maine?

I was born and raised in Portland. I love Maine !

17. I'm in a rural town on the coast, but yeah we're the same district as "the county" where
McCain/Palin are trying to peel off that EV. Frankly, they may be doing well with the very conservative voters but I imagine the moderates and liberals are getting annoyed with these silly calls.

I know that I am.

19. Politico has it now
http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/1008/Rudy_takes_to_phones_to_hit_Obama_on_crime.html

Rudy takes to phones to hit Obama on crime (Jonathan Martin)

Rudy Giuliani is portraying Barack Obama as soft on crime in robocalls being blasted out to swing states by the RNC and McCain campaign.

The call comes on the heels of a mailer beigng sent out by the Florida GOP focused on crime, an indication that even while McCain on the stump focuses on contrasting himself with Obama on taxes and spending, his campaign and party are using other wedge issues in a more targeted fashion as Election Day nears.

The focus is on the Democrat's opposition to mandatory minimums, and the bill of particulars is tough.

"You need to know that Barack Obama opposes mandatory prison sentences for sex offenders, drug dealers and murderers" Giuliani says. "It's true, I read Barack Obama's words myself."

To legally ensure that the RNC can share the cost, the former New York mayor adds: "And recently congressional liberals introduced a bill to eliminate mandatory prison sentence for violent criminals, trying to give liberal judges the power to decide whether criminals are sent to jail or set free."

One voter in Maine got the call this morning, a sign McCain is still pursuing the lone electoral vote in the state's second congressional district.

Sheesh. Put Rudy on the phone for real, I'll give that idiot a piece of my mind.
