MN now the Only Senate Race that is Tied - Al Frankin just lost his 4 point lead
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 10:56 AM by pathansen
In just the last 2 days, we've been bombarded with vicious attack ads against Frankin by powerful Coleman supporters making MN the biggest battleground Senate Race.
See: http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Senate/Maps/Oct21-s.html

Here are 4 ways you can help:
(1) K&R this post
(2) Volunteer at www.colemanfiles.com - MN DFL has been fighting very hard for Frankin
(3) Donate at www.colemanfiles.com
(4) Print out the following, make copies and do literature drops :

NORM COLEMAN: THE SENATE’S “EXTREME MAKEOVER” CANDIDATE

This is an inspiring true story of a Senator from Minnesota trying to transform his image from one of the top biggest supporters of the Bush Administration to an "Independent." FACT: Remember when he first ran for office pretending to be a “Democrat” and then switched to “Republican” after he got elected? Well, it looks like history may be repeating itself

What is Norm Coleman hiding in his closet? Visit www.colemanfiles.com and: www.candidatemakeover.com/doors.html to find out. Here is a preview:

1. TOP BUSH BUDDY -. As a primary cheerleader for the Bush-Cheney administration, Coleman backed Bush on every major issue from the economy to Bush’s failed Iraq War strategy. In some recent years, Coleman voted with Bush 98% of the time. Called George Bush “Part of God’s Answer.” Coleman was designated as one of Karl Rove’s “Principal Defenders” in Congress. Senators have described him as “Attack dog” for Bush.
2. ECONOMY - Together Bush and Coleman increased our national debt to over 9 Trillion Dollars. Voted to give 40 billion to companies sending our jobs overseas and 300 billion to the drug companies. Also wants to spend another trillion to privatize social security!
3. FAILED TO INVESTIGATE WAR PROFITEERING – Norm Coleman held zero hearings as chairman of a Senate Committee on Investigations while over $13 Billion Meant for Reconstruction was Wasted or Stolen. Coleman failed to hold contractors like Halliburton accountable for overcharging in Iraq while he took money from Halliburton.
4. COLEMAN’S ACTIONS HAVE REPEATEDLY HARMED ENVIRONMENT - To get re-elected, Coleman is now claiming to be this genuinely concerned environmentalist but his actions as Senator reveal just the opposite. Coleman has sided with Big Oil time after time, and has taken nearly $265,000 from oil and gas interests. He strongly supported the Bush-Cheney plan to give billions in tax giveaways to oil and gas companies and even Voted Against Renewable Energy Sources and Against Reducing Dangerous Greenhouse Gases. Drafted Plan To Strip Control of Carbon Dioxide Emissions; Carbon Dioxide Would Not Be Considered A Pollutant Under Coleman’s Idea.
5. HEALTH CARE - Coleman Voted For a Prescription-Drug Bill That Barred Medicare from Negotiating Lower Drug Prices, Barred Cheaper Drugs from Canada. Has voted against measures that would have covered more uninsured Americans, including children. Coleman Has Taken More Than $327,000 from the Pharmaceutical Industry.
6. EDUCATION - While college tuition continues to skyrocket, Coleman has repeatedly put tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy ahead of Minnesota students, voting to cut taxes for corporations while at the same time cutting college aid and raising taxes for students. Also cast crucial vote for largest student-loan cuts in history
7. MORE: (a) VETERANS - Voted against $65 billion to help veterans; (b) CORPORATE WELFARE/ SUPPORTER OF SPECIAL INTERESTS - Has Taken More Than $507,000 from Big Banks, Financial-Services and Credit-Card Companies; ranked 2nd In Senate For Privately Financed Trips (c) SENIORS - Coleman repeatedly opposed allowing medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices; Took hundreds of thousands from pharmaceutical industry. Wants to privatize Social Security.

2. i wish it were someone other than franken
i love franken, i really do. i got him to sign a copy of "lies and the lying liars..." in baton rouge louisiana in the dark heart of bush land in the darkest hours of the bush era. but he really isn't the best candidate to be running now. he has too many skeletons in his closet. yes, they're actually all stupid, minor skeletons. but the thing is, they're the sort that make for brutal negative ads. and they're blanketing us with them all the damned time.

5. Sorry but if the people of Minnesota vote for coleman than either they agree with bush
or they are complete idiots, and don't realize that coleman has voted with bush over 90% of the time

10. Its better to have someone who makes people laugh than someone who has made millions cry in Senate
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 10:31 AM by pathansen
He may have weaknesses but Frankin is a strong, articulate and very devoted candidate who will be courageous enough to stand up to special interests.

Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 11:10 AM by Occam Bandage
the utterly uninspiring, party-hopping carpetbagger Norm Coleman, and the blander-than-mayonnaise-on-white-bread Skip Humphrey. Minnesotans are happy to vote for the independent candidate as a mass protest when they dislike both of the major-party candidates, and to some extent that looks to be happening again.

21. maybe, but you should see the ads they're running up here (if you aren't, that is)
coleman may have dropped his "negative ads," but the slack has been more than picked up by the party apparatus and the motherfucking chamber of commerce (MCOC). constant accusations of "pornography" etc. franken's had a few really good ones of course, one in particular that pretty deftly turned around one of coleman's nastiest ones from a few weeks ago. but the constant, and i mean *constant* (and, obviously, hypocritical) drumbeat of "pornographer" and "degrading to women and people of other races" is sure to take *some* sort of toll.

3. I don't understand this one at all.
MN is a blue state, the political climate this year heavily favors Democrats, AND Coleman is such a slimy POS.

Are people just reluctant to vote for Franken because he's an entertainer?

Not strong enough to win but it's probably hurting Franken to at least some degree. I hope he wins. I love the guy and his jokes/satire are killer! GOFRANKEN!!!!!!!

8. It looks like that
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 10:23 AM by butlerd
I don't know exactly who's running or which party (Perot's party?) he/she belongs too but I thought that I saw a poll out recently where they were running about 18%. I think that the Reform Party (that helped elect Jesse "The Body" Ventura) has an uncharacteristically strong presence in that particular state.

In response to your comments- I couldn't agree more.

Hopefully, on election day, enough independents end up breaking for Franken. We can only hope!

11. Not at all. The Independence party is drawing more from Republicans than Dems.
Franken is an unusually weak candidate; he doesn't have particularly high support among any groups. I regret his entering the race. Coleman, of course, is just about as unpopular among his own party; he's been a run-of-the-mill Bushie, and run-of-the-mill Bushies aren't too popular among anyone.

I heard the Independent was getting more votes from Democrats because of how he criticized Coleman in the last debate.

13. The 38-ish % of voters who chose Jesse Ventura for governor -
shouldn't have a problem voting for an entertainer.

Many of those votes for Jesse for governor were actually votes against...Norm Coleman.

With no response and with constant Republican ads for months, it's like he's just conceded, "yeah, this is a dumb idea and I'm entirely for it because I'm in the pocket of thuggish labor leaders."
