$150,000.00 Clothing Allowance
I'm trying to figure this out...She needed clothes for a two and one half month period....

It's been a long time since I had a corporate job so I'm trying to think of what I could have done with a $150,000.00 clothing allowance...

Let's see

I would need ties, shoes, suits, and shirts...

Suits- Let's say I need ten...

I'd buy some Hart Schaffner Marx and some Armani suits off the rack...I would need ten...Let's be generous and say the average would be $1000.00 a suit...(That's a nice suit)...

$10,000.00

Ties

I'd buy some nice ties...They don't have to be desiner ties...Let's say $50.00 a tie...

$500.00

Shirts

Ten shirts...They don't have to be designer; just comfortable...Let's say $50.00 a shirt

$500.00

Shoes

Five pairs of shoes...Let's be generous...I'll get some Bostonians, Ballys, and Cole Haans....

$2000.00

Grand total

$13,000.00

How did she get to $150,000.00?

4. I Realize Men And Women's Clothes Don't Cost The Same
But you can buy the clothes you need to make a good impression for a fraction of what she spent...

Even if you double my expenditures you're at $26,000.00...

And, get made to measure suits at Brooks Brothers.

Must I think of everything?

9. Brooks Brothers Suits Aren't Really That Expensive
And they are too conservative...

Hart Schaffner Marx is a good middle of the road suit...Not too conservative; not too fashion forward or haute couture...And my Armani suits would be black...

Ferragamos are too narrow...

16. Made to measure can be $5000. Depends on the material.
That's pretty expensive. Off the rack is pretty cheap. You can get them for as little as $500.

10. This spree is crazy, but so are you to illustrate it by comparing men's clothing costs to womens'...

Good God, man. Hide this post from any woman you ever want to spend time with. If you don't, you'll spend the next five years getting price comparisons from her...

Women get screwed for the cost of their clothes. They're all mad about it, all the time.

Of course that doesn't justify this price tag. I'm just trying to help you as an individual.

To me, the real point is that this is the "attack dog" who keeps trying to claim that she is part of the common clay Americana. Don't try to tell a soccer mom that Sarah Palin should be able to dress for the same cost as a man. Ask that soccer mom if she thinks that anyone, even the President, absolutely needs to spend $150,000 for clothes. For a mother of five, that's enough to provide an education for several children. Most real moms would shudder at that comparison.

The McCain campaign should be able to defend this with a two part strategy. First, when asked "Did you know Sarah Palin spent over $150,000 during a shopping spree for clothes?" they should respond, "Really? Wow, what a deal. She looks like a million bucks."

Second, they've already announced that these clothes will be auctioned off after the race. (Who knows whether that really would have happened before, but now they have to.) They should announce that the charity the money goes to is going to be special needs children.

In the end, clothes worn by Sarah Palin during a VP campaign will almost certainly fetch more than they did when new.

Oh yeah, they probably shouldn't hold that auction on eBay. It hasn't worked well for Sarah in the past.

12. Here's The Ralph Lauren/Polo Site
http://www.ralphlauren.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1760898&cp=1760782&ab=ln_women_cs1_dresses&pg=1

A woman can get the attire she needs for a lot less than $150,000.00...

I don't think Polo is declasse...

17. I completely agree, as I said. But there is a Pandora's Box opened...

...every time anyone compares the cost of men's clothes to the cost of women's clothes. Every time. Test it yourself. You should hear the phrase "Men are so lucky" within the first two minutes.

For bonus points, ask how hard it is to find a good, comfortable bra that provides support and fits right.

11. If she becomes VP
How will we ever afford HER (just in terms of clothing)? Is this one of the things that McCain plans to include in his across-the-board "spending freeze"?

Inquiring minds of taxpayers need to know............
