John McCain; "Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic part of America"
"Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic part of America"

So all you other parts of America are "less" patriotic, according to John McCain.

And he's the man to "unite" America.

Ummm...

7. It was that stuff about how she was proud to be in one of the "patriotic regions" of America.
Basically, the right-wing strategy of playing up resentment against New England, the Pacific Coast, and urban areas.

McCain Calls Western PA "Most" Patriotic, God-Loving Part Of The Country

21 Oct 2008 07:59 pm
Just like dark energy in the universe, one could very well assume that patriotism is evenly distributed across the country. Certainly, some parts of the country are more God-loving' than others, but that's simply a factor of the distribution of atheists and agnostics. And, actually, given the density of cities, there are probably more God-loving people in urban areas than there are outside urban areas.

This just isn't so, according to Sen. John McCain. One area of the country wins the God-loving, patriotic contest.

"I couldn't agree with you more than the fact that Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most God-loving, most patriotic part of America... this is a great part of the country."

From CNN Political Producer Tasha Diakides

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (CNN) — John McCain attacked Barack Obama in Western Pennsylvania Tuesday over a surrogate's comments that some of the area's residents were racist, telling locals the region was "the most patriotic, most God-loving" part of the nation.

“I think you may have noticed that Senator Obama’s supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about Western Pennsylvania lately,” he said, to loud boos from the crowd.

Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha, who supports Obama, was quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette saying there is "no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area," and predicted that those attitudes could cost the Illinois senator on Election Day.

“I couldn't agree with you more than the fact that Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most God-loving, most patriotic part of America, and this is a great part of the country,” McCain said Tuesday, to cheers.

9. Both those quotes are whitewashed. Here's his full mind-melting quote:
"Sen. Obama's supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about Western Pennsylvania lately. And you know I couldn't agree with them more. I couldn't disagree with you. I couldn't agree with you more than the fact that Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most god-loving, most patriotic part of America. This is a great part of the country. My friends, I could not disagree with those critics more," McCain said.

12. I left out the Gaffe to focus on the OP.
But the Gaffe was awesome. McCain then reacted by trying to cover his tracks with the "most patriotic" overstatement which just undid the song and dance his running mate did on CNN about that issue. ROTFLMAO!

18. This is really bizarre. The Neo-McCarthists want to slice and dice
pockets of this country into "Patriotic" and "Un-American". THis has to be the dumbest strategy for a 2008 election.

24. Really? It's more patriotic than Flagstaff?
I'm sure the people of Arizona will be shocked to hear this. First of all, it's ridiculous to assert that any area is more patriotic than any other area.

But lets say he's foolish enough to make this comparison... How is Western PA more patriotic than Flagstaff, AZ? Flagstaff is one of the major crossroads of the nation.

Flagstaff is basically at the Grand Canyon. It's on the road to the Hoover Dam. California is west. Phoenix is South. Salt Lake City is north. And the rest of the nation is east. McCain is a fool.
