Third reason L-N endorses McCain is his character
EDITORIAL
Americans want their president to be of impeccable character and have a personal history beyond reproach, completely devoid of any moral or ethical failings. Unfortunately, once again this year, we face yet another election in which both candidates are only human.
John McCain had some rather inauspicious beginnings as a petulant cadet at the U.S. Naval Academy, racking up a record number of demerits and graduating fifth from the bottom of his graduating class. His rebellious nature would soon serve him well in the defining event of his life, however.
As a prisoner of war during Vietnam, McCain was offered early release because his father was a high-ranking naval officer. Knowing that his early release was offered as a propaganda tool, McCain refused. It was a singularly selfless act of patriotism, and thereafter, including the tortuous retribution that followed, "country first" was not merely a campaign slogan, but McCain's guiding ethic.
