On the Thom Hartmann show he said that some article said if you vote striaght ticket in some states the vote for President won't be counted. Sounds like a scam to keep senate seats to me.

Anyone got more info, he maybe right. Just want to be aware of the full details. Sounds undemocratic if you can't vote for who you want to, to me.

1. Yes, that was a problem here in New Mexico that was recently discovered
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 10:47 PM by LearnedHand
In testing the voting machines, they discovered that if a voter colored in the straight-party-vote circle at the top of the ballot, the machine failed to count a vote for president or Senate. They reported the problem to have been corrected.

2. Texas you vote straight ticket, period...
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 10:46 PM by liberalmuse
but I believe in states like North Carolina, or maybe it was Florida, you have to vote for the Pres, then straight ticket. I personally believe that you should vote for every single candidate individually, even if you are voting straight ticket. It's just safer that way, IMO, because I've heard the rumors about straight ticket ballots being tossed out in larger numbers than others. I guess it depends on the ballot/machine you are using.

6. As I understand it that is correct. You vote for the President first, then the straight ticket,
and here in NC you then flip the page and vote for the non-partisan people like judges and other local things.
