Chicago Sun-Times: Obama to charge premium for election night coverage
Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Obama campaign is charging reporters for premium spots for election night coverage. Of course, the comments on this article are almost universally anti-Obama for doing this. What is the "standard" (if the word can be used in conjunction with the press) for allocating space at events at which space allocation is controlled? Is Obama being unfair? Is space allocated by lottery? What gives?

1. That Elitist!
Christ, first, look at the source of this article. I don't care for Lynn Sweet. Second, I'll bet Bush charged a gazillion times more than that. Third, this is likely normal procedure, but you know, when Obama does it, it is 'uppity'.

2. Right wing pukes are all over that board
Obama is just being a good socialist, getting the most money he can from those willing to pay.

Seriously though, I don't see anything wrong with it. If the press thinks it should be free they should refuse to cover the event.

3. That's peanuts for the news orgs.
They don't have to pay anything to cover the event. It's just for limited access.

4. Like McCain wouldn't do the same thing.
And honestly, that is not at all a bad price for a one night, one time event.

What's the big deal?! I don't get it. It says right there it's not like the Obama campaign is going to and even trying to make a profit, it's just to cover the actual cost that it'll be. Jeezus she's a baby. *Edit* There is no "premium" - to use those quotes like McCain has been lamely doing as of late.

9. My guess is that it's going to cost a TON of money to stage that
so he's charging those that can most afford it so that it can be open to the public for free.

Do you know how many portapotties he's going to have to rent?
