Can we do anything to get FOX News off the air?
I am convinced that they are pro GOP and "spin" things to make Bush look good. I don't like them and feel we need to do something to get them off the air.

P.S. I wore my Kerry/Edwards button to class today and a professor asked me if I liked higher taxes. I simply replied that the government knew better what the money needed to be spent on. These right wingers infuriate me.

1. Read the First Amendement
and get back to us. (Or maybe your professor can tell you about it.)

And we don't want to. They have every right to put out their news. You just don't have to listen.

But he won't. You just know he won't.

Unfair and Unbalanced
A free and independent press is vital to democracy. Political partisans cannot be allowed to falsely represent themselves as journalists. That's why we believe:
"The Federal Trade Commission and Congress must act to prevent Fox News from using the deceptive and misleading trademark 'Fair and Balanced.'"

You can now ask the FTC to order Fox News to stop misleading consumers. The FTC's job is to protect consumers from deceptive advertising on the part of big media companies. Please enter your name, email address, zip code, and your personal comment below. We'll deliver these messages to the FTC and to other political leaders.

To read the complaint filed with the FTC, click here.

16. When we were raising a family we didn't allow the words "shut up" to be
used in the house at all. We felt that they showed a complete disregard for the other person's humanity. We did use "be quiet" because that expressed our desire but did not assault the senses.

23. There's no law against propaganda 24/7,
not since Reagan (aided by Bork and Scalia) managed to overturn the Fairness Doctrine.

The Move On suit is only to prevent them from lying about what they're doing to the public airwaves. If you're going to be a partisan propagandist, you need to stop misleading people and pretending that you're not.

It's about deceptive advertising, not interfering with freedom of expression.

9. not Fox specifically, of course
obviously you are setting a trap to show that liburls don't care about free speech.

But there are laws that could be passed to prevent Fox-like propaganda outlets, which undermine democracy, from existing.

In the spirit of the free market and freedom of speech, the Progessive Left needs a 24 hour cable station of its' own or a "guerilla" strategy to get around them.

I believe that the merging technologies of the computer, the internet, the phone and the television will soon enable small operations to at least put a dent in the domination of the big guys.

We are seeing it already since the selection of 2000 with "communities" like this forum and other online independent media organizations.

11. I wouldn't want to.
The only thing I want FAUX to do is admit where they're coming from. I could have a great deal of respect for FAUX if they'd just admit they're a RW tool. If they'd admit it, I'd actually think they were doing a great job at what they do. Instead, they pretend to report from the middle, in which case, they're doing an abyssmal job.

12. Turn it off
OF COURSE they are pro GOP; they don't even try to hide it anymore. But they have the right to speak, same as you do.

BTW, of course you don't like higher taxes, but federal income is only ONE of the taxes you pay. Look at your state taxes, local taxes and the growing deficit that is going to be paid by SOMEONE'S taxes.

14. Ask your professor if he/she likes the debt that our
country is in? Also, ask the professor what specifically he wants eliminated from this country that taxes pay for...with these choices: schools and education, infrastructure, security of our country...its ports, borders, airports, trains, subways, etc., helping those unable to care for themselves because of illnesses, social security for those who paid into it for years(although this isn't what our taxes paid for...supposedly).

As for FOX, it won't go off the air. Just don't watch it! Isn't that supposed to be the deciding factor in whether a show lasts or not...if the ratings go down for lack of interest? Of course, the RW will be more interested than we are and we can't stop that...as much as I'd like to. They have a right to their kind of show as we do.

17. Ah what classes on a Labor Day Week End?
If you're at a State School ask him if he likes a pay check because outside of Alumni contributions your taxes pay his salary.

Ask him to see his credentials, any one that closed-minded in making a simple GOP talking point is ill-prepared to entrust the future generation.

Unless he is challenging you to support your view. In that case I laud him!

and "I simply replied that the government knew better what the money needed to be spent on." that's RW twisting of the liberal argument on taxes. I've NEVER heard a real liberal use that argument.

29. tell teacher since in education and research, he investigate
to see if in reality he hasnt been taxed more since bush, not less. that there has been a slight of hand, though he thinks he got a tax break it is the opposite. with higher gas, higher sales tax higher insurance and reaally the back door tax this year, he is going to have less money not more. so in his smugness the question would be, do you prefer having less money to spend than more

34. I would like it very much if they were forced to label their product as
something other than "news," much less "fair and balanced." They don't have to stop selling their product; they just have to label it correctly. Sort of like, oh, FDA requirements for "miracle herbs" and that sort of thing.

I would ALSO like it if Rupert Murdoch's stranglehold on the media could be loosened somehow. It feels like trying to untangle an elaborate knot at this point; we can't just keep yanking at it without looking to see where it starts. We need to examine it closely and find the right place to start working on it, then pick slowly and carefully until it's free.
