Oldsters hobbling on crutches stood next to schoolgirls in plaid skirts. Aging civil rights workers with receding Afros stood shoulder to shoulder with bald union workers.

Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama, attracted a true melting pot to the Pensacola Civic Center on Tuesday. And she stirred the pot consistently during her 35-minute speech.

“No longer will we be complacent,” Obama told 7,000 people who crowded the Civic Center for a Get Out The Vote rally, just two weeks before the Nov. 4 elections.
People in Washington have been working on the issues for a long time, we know that. But they haven’t made the kind of progress we’d like to see. We have to ask ourselves, isn’t it time for new solutions, because we know the old ways just won’t do? Isn’t it time for our politics to reflect our realities and our values?

“Don’t we deserve leaders that get it?”

The crowd answered in the affirmative with thunderous applause and spontaneous shouts of “We love you, Michelle!” and sporadic chants of the Obama mantra, “Yes, we can.”

be sure to watch the vid located on the right, It has some nice interviews with the the Obama supporters.

7. Thanks for this link
I was in Pensacola in late September. I saw lots of McCain signs (in the more expensive neighborhoods) and a few Obama signs. But as the article points out, Obama doesn't expect to carry Pensacola; he just needs to get as many votes as he can to put with the votes from the Dem parts of Florida and WIN this state.

10. 70 people still lined up were not allowed in
Security officials sealed the Civic Center entrance once Obama arrived at the arena, and about 70 people still lined up were not allowed in.

Obama met with the 70 supporters privately for a few minutes outside the Civic Center after her speech, Cate said.
