Lynn Sweet is whining because she wants a cheaper rate.

2. Lynn Sweet does not like Obama.
She smears him every chance she gets. I will wait to hear it from Obama himself.

4. Oh the outrage. They act as if we the media are for profit businesses... oh, wait... we are.
Standard operating procedure... campaigns charge media for plane rides, meals, media centers, etc.

7. I figured as much.
It's not like the media gets that stuff paid for by the Obama campaign. Sheesh. Sounds reasonable to me.

5. Well, it appears...that the media can get in for free....
but if they want special access, they pay;

"Credentials to access the General Media Area are available at no cost. Please note that the General Media Area is outdoors, unassigned and may have obstructed views. General Media Area credentials do not include access to riser positions, satellite truck parking or the press filing center."

Isn't Lynne Sweet a right wing hack?

I don't know that I trust the whole thing, because it's from an 'unnamed source'. Obama staffers usually have no problem disseminating info with their name attached.

wow - you are hard to please. Lynn.

Isn't this standard? What is McCain asking the press to cover re: fees?

8. I have no idea, but I don't think Obama should appear on Saturday Night Live
which was also presented on the Huffington Post

I would like to know more about Sweet, and the Chicago Sun, and where they are coming from

12. It's the Chicago Sun Times
and Novak does write for it. However the Chicago Tribune is the right wing Rag in this town. The Sun Times is a good paper especially now that Jay Mariotti is gone.

that time Novak did write for it. It was sold and in 2007 once again became liberal. One of its writers is Roger Ebert and I think we all know that he is very liberal. Sweet however runs anywhere from hot to cold on Obama. Some times I see her when she is fair to him and some times I see where she is not. I'm not sure what her problem is, but evidently she has one.

14. I agree with you there. I dont know what an SNL appearance will accomplish at this point.
I rarely if ever question Barack's decisions, but I will actually be surprised if he appears on SNL. It's one of those things where more harm can come than good.

16. After wading through the freeper infestation in the comments
of Sweet's blog, I found a really good comment.

Look at all of you conservatives standing up for the poor media elite. Between the phony outrage and the sounds of the dying (broke) newspaper business, I can hardly hear myself think.

So.... um.... who SHOULD pay for all the perks the media is expecting here? It says these fees are to cover costs, which from the sounds if it makes a lot of sense -- parking places, electrical hookups, food... These things cost money, right?

Should the taxpayers of Chicago pay? Should the campaign contributors who gave money to help him get elected pay for the media to eat and be comfortable after he wins? I could see all of you calling either one of those scenarios a scandal too.

So someone tell me, after looking at the facts (including the fact that any and all media CAN attend for FREE if they feed themselves and call the story in on their cell phone), and ignoring the spoon-fed shocked tone of the article: what. is. wrong. with. this? Who--WHO?--do YOU want to pay the expenses? Saying "Obama" should pay means Joe Taxpayer or Joe Contributor should pay.
