Can we lay off Fast Eddie
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 08:35 PM by Jake3463
Listen. I don't like him. I don't like how he conducted himself during the PA Primary. I don't like how he threatened local politians that if they endorsed Obama he would cut funding for their areas in the state budget. I don't like how he shows up into town with giant checks like its the Publisher's Clearing House. If he runs for Senate I'm volunteering for his opponent. That being said. I've voted for the man twice because well...my options were Republicans. If necessary I will vote for the man in the future. However he has done good things in the past. His policies here have been solid Democratic. He has worked his heart out for both Al Gore and John Kerry and he convinced Bob Casey to run against Rick Santorum and removed that filth from the Senate when Casey didn't want to leave PA. The man bleeds blue.

However, since the Primaries Ed Rendell has been very supportive. He's held fundraisers for Obama accross the state. Appears at every Obama event. He has turned over the democratic machine to Obama's campaign.

I have no doubt that we will win PA. However if people think its a sure thing here less people will turn out. If there is lower turnout than there is a chance that GOP will pick up gains in the state house, senate, state offices (Attorney General, Auditor General etc.) and in the federal congressional races.

If people get complacent here we stand a very real chance of losing local elections I don't think PA will go red but you never know. We need our volunteers getting out the vote and we need people scared that if they don't get to the polls McCain will be President. Ed Rendell was performing a service today for both the Obama campaign and the local democrats.

Normally when it comes to Fast Eddie I'm all about saying Flame him. In this instance. I'm fully behind what he had to say.

1. Honestly, I don't care anymore.
I was a HUGE Obama supporter in the primary, but I'm so over it. Rendell can help deliver Pennsylvania. That's all I care about.

2. The PA cities never slack off when they get the call.
That's how Santorum was booted out. And thanks to the energized in the immediate 'burbs, Cuthroat Weldon was ALSO booted in 2006. Over 60,000 total turned out in Philly at the 4 spots where Obama spoke the week before last.

The cities are fired up and ready to go and that is where the Democratic vote is.

4. Rendell
said he was concerned about PA because McCain was spending so much time here.

6. Then I guess I'm an asshole too.
Because I'm worried about PA considering McCain is spending so much time here.

I think they're going to try to steal it here.

Nutter will have the city on watch for GOP operatives.

The mayors of Pittsburgh Allentown and Bethlehem are solid dems.

Rendell will probably be mobilizing the state police.

Obama has an army of lawyers and experience poll watchers descending on the state.

Oh yeah and the SOS is a Rendell Appointee.

I think if they try anything we are loaded for bear.

16. Philly's vote is vulnerable.
I was surprised how many people I had a hard time registering because they were trying to stay off the grid. These people are vulnerable to GOP scare tactics and I worry about getting out the word to them that, no you won't be arrested for any outstanding warrants, traffic tickets, etc. when they go to vote.

7. I just heard on KYW that McKKKlan was up in Bucks County (Bensalem) today.
If anywhere on this side of the state, that is where he should have been all along if he had to set foot in SE PA. NOT Philadelphia. And even then, Bucks recently flipped to having more registered Democrats then repukes. But it's still much redder than anywhere in the immediate SE area.

8. He got less than 1000 people today
at a venue that holds 4000 from what I read earlier. He can't draw crowds without Palin.

My boss lives in the suburbs. She was at a soccer game for her daughter and the talk was Palin is a dumbass, McCain is old, and she isn't ready to be President. She'a a bad mother was thrown in there too.

Don't know if that means much but she's in an upper middle class neighborhood and Palin scares the shit out of a majority of those women. The ones that liked her kept very quiet according to my boss.

9. KYW claimed it was 2000
and I was  knowing it was a lie. I have a sister in Montco and one in Delco and both have hard-core repukes on their streets who had already switched to Obama during the primaries and have the most signs in their yards compared to the Dems on the street! They had had it with Shrub and McPalin made them even angrier.

11. I would also hope Obama pays a visit to PA soon
I know the polls look good but Obama and Biden need to do some rounds in PA before November. I agree with Ed there. But there is also the fact that Obama has a lot of cash to dump in PA.

12. Obama was just here the weekend before last.
He went to 4 different locations in Philadelphia and drew tens of thousands at each spot.

Don't believe the PA hype. It ain't happening. Obama is now up to rotating at least 4 different radio ads an hour on the top Arbitron stations and who knows how many on local TV. He just added a 2nd PA-focussed radio ad today to the one already running with Casey doing the narrative.

15. I do trust the judgement of the Obama campaign
They have made some people freak with their cool way to go about this election but they always come through when it is important. I am glad to hear about the radio campaign!

Thanks for the update!

On all the radio stations every break has an Obama ad.

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy...dominated by Obama

14. That's great!
McCain has a huge mountain to climb in PA to hope for a win. And on top of that there is VA.
