RNC appears to shell out $150K for Palin fashion
By JEANNE CUMMINGS | 10/21/08 7:47 PM EDT

The Republican National Committee appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.

Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing.

30. Maybe it's just me,
but I think it looks goofy when women wear boots that come to the bottom of the knee & a skirt that comes to the top of the knee. The only part of the leg that shows is the knee! I think the skirt should either be thigh high or below the knee enough to cover the top of the boot.

26. I think the late Steve Goodman had moosegirl & m.c.johnny in mind:
Door Number Three

I took a wrong turn, but it was a right turn

My turn to have me a ball

The boys at the shop told me where to stop

If I wanted to play for it all

But I didn't know I'd find her on day-time TV

'Cause my world lies waiting behind door number three

Now I don't want what Jay's got on his table

Or the box Carol Merril points to on the floor

But I'll hang out just as long as I am able

Until I can unlock that lucky door

Well she's no big deal to most folks, but she's everything to me

'Cause my whole world lies behind door number three

'Ain't it hard to realize

He's not selling any alibis

When he stares into the vacuum of your eyes

And says. . . Do you wanta make a deal'

They found us in the lost and found

Love is blind but now I see

That my whole world lies waiting behind door number three

Yes, my whole wodd lies waiting behind door number three

38. That comes to about ===> $3,000 PER DAY
Palin's only been on the campaign since the beginning of September, so that's 50 days -- ignoring whether she campaigned every day or not. That comes out to $3,000 per day, and that only includes the expenses that are known.

Maybe some of the shopping was for Cindy, Meghan, the Palin kids, etc, as well. But wow.

From some of the comments on the Politico story. I LOVE it!

"Well, I guess Cindy is picking out the outfits. Recognize the leather jacket, tight black skirt look? Haha. too much. Why can't Palin pay for her own clothes? She saved the $25000 that she billed to Alaska for flying her kids around to places they weren't invited...."

"What's the difference between McCain/Palin and Bush/Cheney? Lipstick."

"How much does Levi's mullet cost?"
