Colorado - Palin opposes tax to help developmentally disabled
DENVER - Republican Vice Presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) is speaking against a Colorado ballot initiative designed to help the state's developmentally disabled population by raising the sales tax.

Palin made the comments Monday in Colorado against Amendment 51 which seeks to raise the sales tax by one cent on every $10 spent in each of the next two years.

The money would go to help the roughly 12,000 kids and adults in Colorado who currently are on a wait list to receive state services such as home nursing care and job training. They suffer from autism, Down syndrome and mental retardation. Palin's son has Down syndrome and she has campaigned as an advocate for special needs families.

4. AARRGGGHHHHHH I am so sick of this shit!
When times get tough those in society who are most vulnerable - those who cannot fight for themselves are the ones who are first cut out.

Palin has enough $$ and enough family support and enough 'friends' that her son will never suffer what a menatlly diabled adult will - those who don't have anyone to speak up for them.

:banghead:

It makes me SICK!!!

11. God damn her to hell.
Yeah, right, she'll be a "friend and an advocate" of families with children with special needs.

There are also waiting lists for sheltered and assisted living placements for people with disabilities, and those lists are growing.

I have heard so many heartbreaking stories of aging and ill parents of children with disabilities who are worrying about where their children will live and who will care for them when they die. In some cases, the money for the placement doesn't come in time and the person with the disability loses not only their parent, but their home as well. It is the height of immorality that we will spend hundreds of billions to bail out Wall Street but turn our backs on the disabled.
