Another message from Asher Heimerman
Our friend Asher is at it again. I just got this message on one of the Obama lists...

__________________________________________________________________________
Tomorrow evening, Jon Carson will speak to two members of Senator Barack Obama's
Grassroots Finance Committee about the campaign between now and Election Day.
They'll discuss our plans and what your fellow committee members would like to
see. One person he'll talk to is the Committee member who has brought in the
most money between last Tuesday and tonight at midnight Pacific. The other will
be the Committee member who has brought in the greatest number of contributions
in that timeframe. I hope that I can be one of those persons with your help.

I also want to remind you all that the final conference call before the
Committee deadline is on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific).
To receive contact information on Wednesday morning, I need to make sure you
have raised $500 or more by the end of the day tomorrow. I can invite one
friend/guest to this conference call. I willc choose one guest to join me on
this conference call, but I'm asking you to make a $10 donation to my personal
fundraising page.

http://my.barackobama.com/asherheimermann

This campaign is built on a grassroots effort to make direct contact with
donors, volunteers, and other supporters. Traditional top-down Washington
politics is easier and cheaper, so to compete with it we need resources that no
campaign before us has needed. But if we can keep going through Election Day,
what we can accomplish will be so much greater. None of us should wake up on
November 5th and ask ourselves what more we could have done.

http://my.barackobama.com/asherheimermann

I hope that you can all help me raise $500 more by tomorrow. Remember, I will be
able to invite a guest onto the conference call. If you want to be my guest, you
will need to donate $10 or more to my personal fundraising page. Even if you
don't want to be on the conference call, I can mail you 10 BArack Obama for
President label stickers if you make a donation to my personal fundraising page.
Just make sure you leave me your mailing address and I'll mail the stickers in
return for your doantion.

http://my.barackobama.com/asherheimermann

I set an ambitious fundraising goal of $5,000 and you didn't just meet it -- you
SMASHED it. But on our campaign, success just makes us work harder. I know that
most of you are most likely sick of me asking for donations but your donation
will help Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Biden win the White House. I hope
I will be able to count on your support, like I have for the past five months.
Thanks once again for your time and support.

Go Obama! Go Biden! Go Democrats!

6. Long story
It's a really long story, but Asher came here a couple months ago posting in the third person like he was some kind of sitting Senator and putting "BREAKING NEWS: ASHER HEIMMERMAN TO HOLD PHONE CONFERENCE AT 1:00" posts in GD.

I understand his enthusiasm for politics, but he's all over the place and can't socially interact with people very well because of this wall of superiority he's built around himself. If it was an adult, I'd just dismiss him as a blowhard, but this is a 14 year old kid.

He's trying to participate in his democracy and he gets shit from adult Democrats.

If the Freepers were doing this to some kid, there would be outrage and disgust.

9. It's not making fun of the kid primarily, it's conern
Honestly, I'm glad the kid is taking an active role in politics. But you have to admit that the way he goes about it is self-serving and over the top. Beyond that, it makes me about his social skills and whether his parents are taking an active role in shaping this young mans life.

He's determined and eager, and I admire that. It's just that he needs to learn how to interact with people and how not to elevate himself beyond what is acceptable in general social discourse.

11. It is making fun of him.
There is no reason to post anything here by Asher since he was banned. Now, it's just calling him out to laugh at his social ineptness.

No one knows everything about this kid. He could have any number of issues, and this may be his way to channel his excess energy. I don't expect any KID to be much beyond ego or the thought of how things effect him. But I do worry about how adults on a website might effect him when he's working to help our side.

After the story of the teenage girl that hanged herself because some adults screwed around with her on MySpace, I think it's a slippery slope, and we're better than that here on DU.

19. Indeed. Catching a teenager being self aggrandizing is not exactly detective work.
I think the hostility toward that kid here was and is inexcusable.

He's a kid, living an oridinary life in a lower middle class family, and he's found something that feeds his ego. But it's something constructive as well as feeding his ego. Would it be better if he were a child of privilege who spent every day swimming in the pool to compete in some contest somewhere? Is that a measure of worth?

He's got a problem with being too much of self promoter, but he's doing SOMETHING.

And I loved to look at myself in the hall mirror and admire my new height, my new muscles, and my suddenly sprouting into something that looked a lot more like a man.

I was somewhat interested in politics, but I didn't do any work in politics until I was 22.

Asher may self promote excessively, but he also PROMOTES politics while doing so. I'm giving him a pass.

23. Do we adults here really need to bully a 14-year-old kid?
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 11:46 AM by Heidi
Any of us who are truly, deeply concerned about this kid needing "help" should cowboy up and contact his parents with our wisdom. Given the amount of information this young man has shared about himself on the internet, his parents shouldn't be too difficult to find. Those of us looking for an easy target should perhaps consider turning our concern to combatting our _real_ opponents: the GOP. While we busy ourselves pummeling this kid, he's busy raising money for Obama. Good for him.

46. He's been told a thousand times to keep his self-promotion and spamming away
But yet even after many, many people and admins tell him to cut it back, he just cranks it up and pretends to not know what is going on.

It's one thing to have dreams and aspirations, but everything that this kid does is self-promotion in its worst form. He needs to learn how to socialize properly and not feel that the spotlight has to be on him in every topic.

Sorry to offend any of you who thing its "bullying", but if someone doesn't step in now (and kudos to DU for doing so), he's going to be an adult and pulling this same stuff. Then what do you call him?
