Paraphrasing: "Something bad will happen early on, and Obama has a steely spine to deal with it"

Why is this even REMOTELY considered a "gaffe"?

I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiment. It is a POSITIVE sentiment about our candidate.

A "gaffe" is a mistake.... something someone didn't MEAN to say.

Why wouldn't Biden mean to say this? I would repeat it every day.

Anybody who is "worried" about this statement almost HAS to be a concern troll.

1. There's nothing wrong with that - every new president gets his first challenge early...
...Clinton with the WTC bombing - Bush with the plane going down in China.

Biden said it because it's true.

2. The only "worrying" that should be done is from the right. This isn't going to turn the tidal wave
of support for Senator Obama back in their direction. The "spinners" will attempt to make this an issue but I understand perfectly what Senator Biden meant.

3. Been saying the same thing all morning...
Anyone who gives any credence to this being something inappropriate to say is either gullible or a Republican. Biden should totally say it 10 times, over and over and over and then DARE to media or the McCain campaign to continue to try and make an issue of it. Call them out on their bullshit.

4. Something Bad
Like an economic melt down? Massive unemployment? Inflation? Huge credit card defaults? Nah, that's pure conjecture on Biden's part. What could possibly go wrong? Everything is rosey here where I live, the REAL, pro-America part of America.

9. AND! It dovetails nicely from what Powell said in his endorsement

Powell was glowing about the different reactions from McCain and Obama during the economic crisis.

That Obama had the proper temperment and steely resolve.

What Biden says goes along perfectly with that.

Seriously, if you're "concerned" about Biden's statement, I have to wonder about your A) intelligence or B) allegiance.

11. wow.
I was basing my post on a conversation with my "average joe" neighbor this morning. Never did I say I was "concerned" and frankly - I'm fucking shocked at your insults.

Gawd forbid I post someone elses thought process that happens to be different than yours. So - you react by calling me a stupid republican? Are you fucking kidding me?

Damn. I had you pegged ALL WRONG.

10. It's only a gaffe if you're Republican, and want to spin it to mean...
...that a President Obama would invite attacks when a President McCain wouldn't.

To her credit, Mika pointed out this morning that it was the politics of fear again.

12. The problem is....and it's a frickin crime...
...is that the media is parsing Biden's words. They are totally
leaving out the "steely spine" portion of Biden's comment.

I've never seen such a blatant circus in my life!!!

It's so disgusting.

"Morning Joe" spent hours on this--manufacturing a big gaffe
when there is none--if you read Biden's comments in their
entirety.

So many guffaws, based on so little.

14. Sorry, but no.
Of course, to say "Obama has steel in his spine" is good. But to say, "elect Obama and the world will throw a bunch of shit at us to see if he can catch it" is NOT good. Average dummy might think, "well, I don't want the world to throw shit, and if McCain's election won't cause the aforementioned shit-storm," then that's the safer choice."

Of course, the whole thing is stupid, because it's Palin that would be tested mercilessly, because it's apparent to any casual observer she's a dunce. Still, this is Biden living up to his reputation as a gaffe machine. Yes, this is indeed a gaffe, as is evidenced byt he fact that all the morning shows are repeating it ad nauseum.

15. The morning shows are repeating it ad nauseum because they are trying to create a close race

So they are reporting only the first half of Biden's quote.

It is our job to make sure the SECOND half gets out there as well.

16. The point is they are repeating this.
I wish this was about what Biden meant.

In the last 14 days it's about managing the news cycle and swaying the undecideds.
