Why I'm somewhat comfortable with the voting machines in PA
2006:

Governor's race:
Ed Rendell(D) 60%
Lynn Swann(R) 40%

Senate race:
Bob Casey(D) 59%
Rick Santorum(R) 41%

The Diebold machines with no paper trail were in place for the 2006 elections.

1. Isn't the problem the tabulators not the voting machines?

And the tabulating is often done in secret. I will never forget how sick I felt when the numbers flipped overnight last time.

2. Well... the tabulating didn't overturn things in 2006... right?

4. The tabulators need assistance. It doesn't happen on its own ... the glitch is likely removed
Can be put back in. Not like the machines are set to cause the crime to happen forever on them.

5. I think there is a problem with...
a corrupted code affecting other elections. I think it might have been in this study done by the Brennan Center at NYU School of Law..

It also may have been in The EVEREST report done by Jennifer Brunner but her website is down now, because of the problems she's been having with security issues.

8. Here's a study that explains..
how voting systems are vulnerable. It's pretty good. Tells the different ways, and even estimates how many people are needed to alter a state-wide election.

3. I hope you are right.

I am always skeptical of faith-based voting (especially since the thieves might not have tried in the past). But you are right that the fact that it didn't happen in the past at least makes it less likely it will happen now.

6. Why can't Democrats hack them for a change?

7. Maybe we did in 2006! LOL!

I'm sure Ricky Santorum believes we did.

9. Diebold also does ATMs, I just realized that
I was in at the Wachovia ATM a few minutes ago and I saw a sticker that said "Diebold Machine ####". I thought to myself, "Where do I know that company from?" Then this topic just made me realize that they do the voting machines.

Maybe thats why Wachovia keeps taking my money?
