My Strategy to Steal a Perfectly Balanced Georgia Out from Under Republican Noses!
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 07:39 PM by ddeclue
Someone has posted a poll which suggests that the state of Georgia is perfectly balanced and in play at this time.

As a long time but former resident of Georgia I would like to point out the following and suggest a strategy to pull off the win for Obama in the Peach State:

CRITICAL FACTS:

Georgia is the home state of BOTH Bob Barr the former Republican Congressman from Newt Gingrich's Contract on America who is NOW the Libertarian candidate AND Cynthia McKinney a well known former Democratic African American Congresswoman who is NOW the GREEN Party candidate.

Barr and Gingrich have in recent years thrown the current GOP House leadership and the White House under the bus rather frequently, perhaps out of sour grapes and perhaps out of true disdain from a more Libertarian point of view.

If this poll result holds, the entire State of Georgia and its electoral votes are going to be like a car hanging off a cliff just perfectly balanced and swaying one way and the other... the slightest breeze or seagull landing off it could send it either way for Obama or McCain.

WE NEED A POLL TO MODEL THE SITUATION:

We REALLY need to know what happens in the poll when it comes down to:

Obama
McCain
Barr
McKinney
Nader (lesser influence but still important enough for pollsters to model)

and how much each of these third party folks is going to pull the race and how other factors like hot down ballot races or ballot initiatives might drive the Presidential race in this scenario the "coat-tails" will likely be reversed and a down ballot race might help or hurt Obama.

MY STRATEGY TO WIN GEORGIA IN A CLOSE RACE:

Our campaign needs to be about getting McKinney and Nader voters to throw in with Obama as much as possible to keep the state out of McCain's hands. Get African American Georgia surrogates to do robocalls and endorsements, etc. for Obama to target McKinney's voters. I don't know exactly how you go after Nader voters or just how many there will be but it should be considered.

Conversely we need to encourage as many defectors from McCain to either Obama or Barr as possible.

Convince Republican moderates to vote for Obama and Republican conservatives to vote for Barr as the "true conservative". Run these ads as a choice between McCain and Barr and target Republican demographics like "Fox News" and "24", country music radio stations, and right wing talk stations etc.
Send out mailers and do robodials (if legal) to targeted Republican voters to convince them to vote for Barr.

Create an Electioneering Communications Organization (ECO) to back it and name it something like "Real Conservatives for Barr" or something that won't peel off Obama voters but WILL peel off McCain voters and get a progressive with deep pockets like George Soros to fund it. Do it as a red flag exercise and write the ads from a conservative POV, i.e. attack McCain for not being intellectually consistent as a conservative (i.e. small gov't and less gov't intrusion)

(Hey I don't feel bad about it... the Republicans do this crap to us all the time in Florida - I'm reminded of Rich DeVos meddling in our Central FL races..)

1. Did you send this to the Obama campaign?
I'm also wondering how Barr is currently polling in Georgia. Do you know?
