Tom Hartmann: "If McCain 'wins,' remember that Nov. 5th is Guy Fawkes Day."
I think there are very few people who doubt that Obama will be elected president on November 4th.

My belief, along with millions of others, is that the Republicans can't win it, but they can steal it.

A short while ago, Tom Hartmann mentioned that "... if somehow McCain wins, remember that November 5th is Guy Fawkes Day."

The film "V For Vendetta" was based on Nov. 5th, Guy Fawkes Day in England. Hartmann wasn't suggesting rebellion. Nonetheless ...

1. I sadly predict there will be violence one way or the other
I hope to God I'm wrong.

But I have a very sick feelign about the tenor of the country leading up to Nov 4th.

I have never seen or heard such outright hate being spewed.

7. Can't help but notice your name there...
I've rarely heard the kind of vile racist comments as I did in Oklahoma after Hurricane Katrina. I've got to wonder what hole you've been hiding down...

2. I predict that the schlubs who voted for McSame will be apathetic to an Obama win
I doubt they'll do shit. If it looks like Obama should have won, but shock-a-roo he gets it stolen, I predict that there will be some shit done by lefties and radicals who no longer see the US as a free country with free elections.

I think we should celebrate with fireworks when we win. It would be in celebration of a peaceful revolution from where we have been the past 8 years.

3. 'V For Vendetta'
'V For Vendetta' was based on the book of the same name written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd.

The movie, while entertaining, was a watered down version of the book.

6. Both had the crucial element
...in which V dressed down the public for not holding their leaders to account, for their apathy, etc.

THAT, if you like, was the point of the book, and the movie did include it.

15. The graphic novel had far more depth
in its treatment of V's essentially anarchist perspective, but then, movies don't even have the same scope as a really good comic book.

16. Any good book will have more depth
...and too, the film's audience was American and the graphic novel's British. Something of an Orwell tale in some ways.

My feeling is that, yes the book is far better, but the core message made it into the movie regardless - and the message was no doubt heard by some. That alone makes it a worthwhile venture.

11. It's been seeping into the culture -
Saw "Max Payne" the other night, and noticed the circled V from Vendetta grafittied on a window of a building he was in.

No other reference. Not necessary. But you know nothing appears in a movie without intent.

5. *chuckle*
"Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot to surrender,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow"

8. And then there's T.S. Eliot
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang, but a whimper

"The Hollow Men" has always been one of my favorites.

November 5th will be McCain's whimper day.

9. I saw Thom live the other night in LA. He said he thinks the repukes will steal 7-8 million votes
this time.

that is why we have to get out and vote so overwhelmingly they can't steal it.
