My husband and I were talking today
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 06:53 PM by koopie57
about all the good ideas people had on line at DU. We wondered if anyone would enjoy working on a speech that we would like to hear delivered by Kerry in a perfect world anyway. People add changes, ect. see what happens?

To start things off if this interest anyone else... rough draft

Mr. President

Every campaign you have been part of is based on ruining the reputation, belittling the efforts of your opponent, making them jokes and lie after lie after lie. I believe that you do not have a compassionate bone in your body, much less a conscience or you could not have been able to bring yourself to do what you did to Max McClelland, McCain, Dole, and myself by shaming us in front of the world for our efforts in Vietnam and Korea. Wearing of purple heart bandage was the lowest I have seen a candidate for president sink to ever. We can hardly shame you for your war record since there is not one that clearly states what you did and where you did it. No one has come forth to say they remember serving with you and why it is that for some reason, (drugs, drinking perhaps) you don't have a clear recollection neither.

But, Mr. President, if you do insist of making this campaign one of personal ridicule, name calling, shaming rather than talking about the issues and proposing real solutions, then bring it on! The people in America need solutions to their problems, and we need to do something in Iraq other than just killing, killing and more killing. But, if you want to keep this campaign ugly then we will play your way. We certainly have enough material to do so until 2008. And every day you make another embarrassing blunder. We will be more than happy to point these out.

For example, you have never run a successful business in your life. It is on record that they all went under, but somehow you became rich doing that? What about the savings and loan scandal. That has the * fingerprints all over it, and what about your lie about being friends will Kenny Boy and now having elderly back working in order to keep a roof over their head. Then there is the picture of Rumsfield shaking hands with saddam in 1983?

Then close with ... If it were up to me, we would be talking about our plans for the economy, iraq, education, etc. Your only plans seem to be those that you proposed in 1999. You should be talking of the results of these proposals rather than using them as your plan for the future. You did manage to lower taxes for the filthy rich but it appears that they already had enough cars, refrigerators, and school supplies that they didn't need to go to the store and shop.

I want to see the taxes for the middle income, lower income Americans to be lowered. I want to see the filthy rich at the very least PAY taxes and not make more money on April 15th. I want an energy plan that is not put together by all your oil friends and I want it to include a plan to implement solar energy, wind energy, any kind of new technology possible to decrease our being held hostage by foreign oil. I want to see a drug plan that is not put together by the pharaceutical companies. I want to see some honor and dignity back in the White House. I'm tired of the disgusting things I hear from you and your cabal. You show no respect for people of color, people of certain religious affiliations, sexual orientations. A professor of yours said you believe poor people were lazy but you are one of the laziest people I have seen in the White House.

Well, at the very least this sure felt good to write. What is the word? Cathartic?

1. I love it
and I think it is exactly the tone he should take. And then he should repeat this speech over and over again to makesure people hear every point. That technique works for the repubs. Send it to the Kerry site so they can see it.

2. Here's a paragraph
You say you're the man to keep our country safe. But your actions belie your words. You have emasculated the Department of Homeland Security, starving it of funds. You have denied needed funds to First Responders, and are yet to fully fund security in New York City. You didn't even have Tom Ridge speak at your convention-something that seems odd if you are really concerned about our safety.

3. Here's another
You say you care about about the children of this country. But your No Child Left Behind law has not been fully funded and now school districts are doing without so they can administer yet another standardized test. The amount of families in poverty has increased for the past three years and there are more people losing their jobs and health care benefits every day. Yet you appear to have no plan to correct this frightening trend in our country.
